Laura and Massimo’s story continues—Netflix has just dropped the official trailer for 365 Days: This Day, the sequel to the 2020 hit film, 365 Days.
There’s a lot happening in the trailer, which reveals Massimo’s family drama, a wedding, and a mysterious man who won’t stop pursuing Laura until he wins her “heart and trust, at any cost.”
The trailer also shows the return of familiar faces like Laura’s best friend, Olga, and Massimo’s trusted lieutenant, Domenico. As for new additions, Nacho is the mysterious man trying to woo Laura.
The clip also gives a glimpse at the scenic visuals of Poland and Italy’s breathtaking countryside, where the filming for the sequel took place.
The first film was a hit for Netflix as it led the streamer’s Top 10 list in over 90 countries when it came out in 2020 and ended with a cliffhanger. It was then announced that Netflix would be filming two sequels simultaneously after the film’s global success.
Loosely based on the novel trilogy by Blanka Lipinska, 365 Days follows a young Polish woman, Laura, imprisoned by a Sicilian gangster, Massimo, who gives her one year to fall in love with him.
As the first film had undertones romanticizing rape culture, it led to a pretty wide backlash, with a petition for its removal from the platform even gathering around 95,000 signatures.
Netflix did not remove the film from its library. However, it would be interesting to see whether the makers worked on this aspect for the sequels.
The sequel is directed by Barbara Białowąs and Tomasz Mandes with Lipinska co-writing the script with Mojca Tirs and Tomasz Mandes. The author told Netflix that this film is going to be a story about Laura’s remarkable journey,
This is undoubtedly a story about a woman. How we can be naive, blind, how much we love, how we learn from our mistakes and how we have an opportunity to correct them.
My hope is that the audience will understand and see Laura’s new independence and how her life is impacted by the decisions she makes.
Actress Anna-Maria Sieklucka had similar sentiments and added that she was excited for the audience to see a new side of her character, Laura,
This Day offers a fresh look at Laura’s character, she’s matured, and there’s definitely some surprises. This instalment goes much deeper and tells us more about the relationship between the lovers. She’s stronger in this sequel.
