Netflix Confirms Leviathan Anime – Release Date, Plot, And Latest Updates

Scott Westerfield’s young adult fiction Leviathan perfectly portrays the setting in World War I. The light novel captivated readers with its imaginative ideas, world-building, action, and sympathetic protagonists. Now, this light novel is set for an anime adaptation by Netflix that fans are excited about.

Release Date And Updates on Leviathan Anime

Netflix announced that the Leviathan light novel will inspire an anime. The anime will be released worldwide exclusively on Netflix in 2025.

The announcement was officially made in the “Next On Netflix Animation: The Preview for 2024 and Beyond” video. As for Leviathan, a short clip was shown at the 0:47 mark.

Qubic Pictures and Orange Studio will collaborate to produce the series. Qubic is known for Eden, and Orange is known for Beastars.

New Key Visual Released

The key visual features the two main characters, a fugitive prince and a girl disguised as a boy.

Staff and Cast of The Anime

Christophe Ferreira has been named as the director of the upcoming Leviathan anime and he’s thrilled about the opportunity. He thanked Netflix and the entire team for entrusting him with this project. 

Justin Leach and Taiki Sakurai will join him as producers, while Joe Hisaishi will compose the series’ original songs. In addition, Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi have joined the anime’s music department. 

The cast for the anime has not been announced at this point, but fans can expect more updates soon.

Plot of The Leviathan Anime

The Leviathan anime is based on Scott Westerfeld’s 2009 trilogy, Leviathan, Behemoth, and Goliath. The story unfolds in 1914, just before World War I, and revolves around a runaway prince and a girl in disguise who cross paths on a bioengineered airship, the HMS Leviathan. Together, they embark on a journey that could alter the course of history.

Netflix’s Leviathan is an anime adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s alternate history novel. The series will premiere in 2025.

The story occurs in 1914, on the eve of World War I. It follows a fugitive prince and a girl in disguise who meet aboard a bioengineered airship, the HMS Leviathan. Together, they find themselves on the course of changing history.

The anime adaptation is being handled by Orange, the animation studio behind Netflix’s flagship anime series Beastars.
