Netflix canceled Neil Patrick Harris’ 2022 comedy TV Series Uncoupled after one season, leaving audiences confused. The show did well in ratings, but apparently, Netflix wasn’t happy with its viewership count and decided to call it after season 1. So, there you go, uncoupled just joined Netflix’s ever-growing list of prematurely canceled shows.
Variety announced the cancelation and shocked fans since season 1 had left many open-end plotlines to explore in a potential season 2. Showrunner Darren Star retained his relationship with Emily in Paris but has not commented on the platform’s decision about Uncoupled.
According to Variety’s sources, Netflix was disappointed with the show’s inability to remain on the Global Top 10 list for a longer period. Thus, despite sporting more than 70% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and audiences alike, the viewers will never know what could have happened in season 2 of Uncoupled.
What might have gone down if Netflix had renewed the dramedy for another season? We’d seen Stanley’s beautiful arc of overcoming his split with Colin, but in the season 1 finale, Colin had returned to confess a mistake.
Obviously, the mistake must have been letting Stanley go, but after season 1, there was no way Stan would’ve taken his ex-back in season 2. But we’ll never know the answer to that for sure. We also might have finally learned the identity of Kai’s father, and it would have been interesting to see the show handle his entry into Suzanne and Kai’s life.
Season 1 revealed Michael’s fatal illness and teased Billy’s journey to find a better version of himself, but after season 2’s scrapping, we’ll never know how their stories ended either.
Seeing this funny romantic drama go to the land of unfinished stories is sad, but we’ll see Harris soon in the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special.
