Simon Kinberg, of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith and X-Men fame, is back with a bang. Late last week, streaming giant Netflix won a rather ferocious auction for Kinberg’s spec script titled Here Comes The Flood.
For those not in the know, a spec script is an unsolicited screenplay written with hopes to have it optioned and eventually purchased by a producer.
This one attracted nearly half a million dollars, an amount unheard of for a spec script. Nevertheless, the story is said to attract stars for its roles!
In what is Kinberg’s first original screenplay since Mr. and Mrs. Smith comes to a love-story heist movie, with the heist playing out in increments.
No wonder that script had multiple takers ever since it hit the marketplace early last week, as reported by Deadline.
The deal was inked soon after Netflix locked a sequel to Extraction with Joe Russo, another with Louis Leterrier to direct Bright 2, and an adaptation of the Harlan Coban novel Six Years with David Ayer.
Meanwhile, Kinberg already has a lot on his plate with a January release date for 355, the global spy thriller that he hatched with Jessica Chastain for Universal, FilmNation, and Freckle Films.
He also has an untitled sci-fi series at Apple inspired by HG Wells’ The War of the Worlds.
