One of the most batshit crazy stories I’ve come across is O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim. While the movie has received mixed reactions and heavy criticism, it still managed to gain popularity with hardcore fans.
The legend of Scott fighting the League of Evil Exes to be with his true love and realizing and overcoming his faults has been a crazy ride.
Even in the live-action movie, there was no single scene that felt ordinary, and everything had a fictional and dramatic touch to it.
If a live-action can be this insane, then the possibilities in this story as an anime are endless. Fortunately for us, Netflix has come up with something already.
Universal Studio Group’s Universal Content Productions (UCP) and Netflix have collaborated to develop a Scott Pilgrim anime series.
Scott Pilgrim’s creator Bryan Lee O’Malley is in charge of the script and the executive producer with Ben David Grabinski. Science SARU, who has produced the popular DEVILMAN crybaby anime, will be animating the project.
More details regarding cast, staff, release dates, and streaming platforms will be revealed later. Right now, a rough draft is in the works, but Netflix and Universal Studio have confirmed the production.
For those who don’t know anything about Scott Pilgrim, brace yourselves to hear one of the most epic yet unhinged tales of all time.
The story starts with an ordinary 23-year-old Scott Pilgrim who’s in a band with Stephen Stills and Kim Pine.
Besides his band, Scott is dating a 17-year-old high schooler Knives Chau, but neither of Scott’s friends supports their relationship.
Soon Ramona Flowers enters Scott’s life, and he falls in love with her, setting off a chain of events that turns his life upside down.
To be with Ramona, Scott needs to defeat her evil exes without becoming one while balancing his own issues and shortcomings.
Scott Pilgrim is a story you either despise to the core or become a part of its weird cult. It’s really just a bizarre story that makes sense yet is the most foolish thing you’ve ever watched.
I can’t say I’m excited to watch this, but I’m curious about what it has in store for us.
