The day has finally dawned when Netflix is offering its content, at least a teeny tiny part of its gazillion GBs, for free!
No strings attached, no credit card info required for a free month! Just the good old free content on your desktop and Android web browsers.
After being spotted by OnlyTech, Netflix too has confirmed that popular shows and movies, such as “Stranger Things,” “Bird Box,” “The Two Popes” and others, will be available to non-subscribers for free.
The streaming giant will allow “select Netflix original series and movies” to be available on desktop and Android web browsers.
For the series, only the first episode of each show will be available, but the streaming giant will allow users to watch entire movies for free.
However, there is the introduction of overt advertisement in Netflix streaming.
All free content will be preceded by a 30-second skippable ad and will be available in more than 200 countries around the world.
“We’re looking at different marketing promotions to attract new members and give them a great Netflix experience,”
A Netflix Spokesperson
As of the second quarter, Netflix had more than 192 million paying subscribers around the world, a figure that saw a major jump in recent months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A source familiar with the situation told Fox News that the company wants to give non-subscribers a chance to look at the type of content Netflix offers.
Netflix said it expects to add 2.5 million paying subscribers in the third quarter.
It may be noted that this target is a significant reduction from the 10.1 million subscribers it added in the prior period.
