We’re edging closer to Christmas, so it’s no surprise that Mythic Quest decides to whip out a holiday-themed episode for Season 3. Surprisingly, this is the first proper Christmas/holiday episode that the show does, other than celebrating a made-up holiday in their second Specials episode.
As usual, there’s plenty of chaos to thwart the holiday spirit. Here’s what went down in Mythic Quest S3 Ep 6:
After failing to keep the employees happy, David gets annoyed that Ian and Poppy try to take over his Christmas planning. In the end, the whole team surprises him with the white Christmas he hoped for and envisioned.
No one likes to work on Christmas Day, and MQ’s employees are no different. But as David explains, they need to be there on Christmas Eve to ensure that the servers don’t crash due to the excessive holiday load.
As David is now the head of MQ, he has all the power to dictate how the 24-hour Christmas shift will go. But his visions (alcohol swapped for hot chocolate and no goofing around) do not sit well with the employees, who just want to let loose.
Cue Ian and Poppy, who also join MQ’s “party.” They eventually realize that since their families did not want to include them in any holiday celebrations, they selflessly chose to spend Christmas with each other. It’s another win for (platonic) team Ian and Poppy!
But, of course, in classic Ian and Poppy style, they do ruin David’s plans for a white, Victorian, and pretty boring Christmas by throwing an absolute rager. David gets extremely annoyed by this, orders the team to return to work, and then drinks himself to sleep.
In the midst of all of this, Rachel reveals that she’s created a new special item for the game. Initially, Brad tries to make the item super limited and expensive, but Rachel finally learns to stand her ground and makes the item accessible to everyone at an affordable price. This even helps her generate a million bucks in revenue!
Another subplot playing about is Jo’s show of affection toward Poppy and Rachel. Now, considering them friends (after their brunch-centric episode), Jo gets them both necklaces made out of metal shards as Christmas gifts. Of course, the two forget to get Jo anything, which only makes her regret being this affectionate and vulnerable.
Come Christmas morning, and there’s a turn of events. David wakes up to find that the office has been decorated in white, just as he envisioned it—Poppy and Ian’s grand gesture. The employees even indulge him by singing a Christmas carol.
Poppy and Rachel gift Jo a game that is based on her, which they built staying up the whole night. Lastly, Rachel uses the revenue from the special item launch to reward the employees with bonuses, proving that sometimes, you can be a capitalist and a socialist at the same time.
And best of all—the MQ servers did not crash!
