There’s no way you can recommend My Stepmom’s Daughter is My Ex anime to anyone without getting a judgy look. This lovers-to-exes-to-siblings romcom is actually not as bad as the title makes it look, but it’s still kind of concerning.

It follows Mizuto and Yume, exes who dated in middle school but had an ugly breakup right before entering high school. As fate would have it, the two reunited within weeks of separating, but as step-siblings.

My Stepmom’s Daughter is My Ex has revealed a new trailer previewing Yume and Mizuto’s breakup and the eventual reunion. The anime is set to release on July 6, 2022.

It starts in the most wholesome way possible as innocent love blossoms between the protagonists. However, it soon becomes a nightmare due to petty arguments over trivial matters. Young love, am I right?

With a dramatic premise, the two separate at their middle school’s graduation ceremony, but not for long. Unexpectedly, Yume and Mizuto cross paths again as their parents reveal that they’re going to be step-siblings.

Your ex becoming your sibling is the worst and most awkward thing that can ever happen, but the two make sure that their personal grudges don’t become the reason for their parents’ sadness. So, they make a deal to act like typical siblings and not feel attracted to each other.

But how will that be possible when both have leftover feelings after the breakup and untied ends?

I am curious to see whether the siblings give in to their feelings or sacrifice for their parents’ happiness?

For me, an ending where they both come to terms with the breakup and decide to remain, decent friends or siblings, is better than a love story. What do you think?
