Episode 3 recap
Bunko assigns chores to Mameda, and Mameda finds human life inefficient. She complains to Bunko about not teaching her any rakugo yet. Bunko takes Mameda to the examination hall. She explains that 10-15 rakugoka perform various acts in between to avoid getting the crowd worn out.
She also describes how the surname of a rakugo speaker is inherited from their master. Mameda is introduced to Sakijuro, who is in charge of the entertainment hall, and Matsu, an usher. They’re surprised to hear Bunko has taken her as her apprentice. Matsu shows her around the hall.
Mameda also meets someone who performs accompaniments. She is assigned to do chores at the hall, where she meets another rakugo speaker, who she’s unintentionally rude to, Shirara Tsubaki. She performs kamigata rakugo.
Mameda asks Matsu why she’s assigned so many chores, and she tells her it’s an integral part of the job to become a rakugo speaker. She tells her people to think rakugo is all the work of one person.
Bunko performs and charms the crowd again. Mameda realizes the importance of her work and contribution to the hall and how it helps Bunko. Mameda falls asleep and turns back into her tanuki form, but luckily falls under a pile of cushions, hiding her proper form from Matsu.
Mameda wakes up in Bunko’s arms, who tells her to be careful. Mameda tells her while there are humans that annoy her, she met some that she liked, making her wish to learn rakugo stronger.
Bunko smiles at her and agrees as they head home. Opposite their lane, a mysterious man meets another, who tells him he has found “them.”
