The eleventh episode of My Master Has No Tail gave us a vital backstory on Bunko and how she became a rakugoka. We see her in her original fox demon form and how she, like Mameda, disliked humans first but eventually warmed up to them.
Even though her teacher, Bunchou, wanted her to let his art die with him, we see how she still took Mameda in. Here are the latest updates.
Episode 12 Speculation
The next episode will be titled “There’s no point to You Being Interesting.” According to the preview, we might se the beginning of Mameda’s next test conducted by Master Utaroku, who was the closest to Bunchou. We will learn more about him, and if Mameda can pass the test, he has arranged for her.
Bunko is seen balancing trays of food and drink on her body in the preview, which could be a part of the test. We can also see Bunko disappointed in something.

Episode 11 Recap
This is a flashback episode. It opens with Bunko’s teacher narrating an old tale about a magical fox(Bunko) who lived in Ise. She was worshiped and valued. As time passed, development destroyed her shrine. Bunchou Daikoukoutei, Bunko’s teacher, asks the fox to be his apprentice.
Enshi is disappointed that he took Bunko as his apprentice, and they begin a rivalry. Bunko also struggles to fit in, feels enraged toward humans, and wishes to take revenge against them. Her teacher tells her that becoming a rakugoka is what she needs, but she thinks that is nonsense.
A group of people hires Bunchou and Bunko for rakugo, and Bunko overhears plans to kill a monster and its shrine and is enraged and horrified. She approaches the man that plans this and tries to attack him, only for Bunchou to get beat up as he tries to protect her from a fight and from revealing her identity.
Bunchou tells her that although he dislikes humans, he loves them, making them laugh. Although he wanted to end his name with himself, his feelings changed when he met Bunko. When Mameds watches him perform rakugo for the first time, she is completely mesmerized.
Bunko fits in better, gets closer to everyone in the hall, and decides that not all humans are imperfect. Five years later, Bunchou tells her to let his art die with her and passes away.
In the present, Bunko reflects on how she met Mameda, who eventually became her apprentice.
About My Master Has No Tail
My Master Has No Tail is a manga by TNSK which is serialized in Kodansha’s good! Afternoon magazine from January 2019.
The manga features Mameda, a shape-shifting tanuki, who wants to learn the art of rakugo or comic storytelling. She sought out Bunko to be her master.
Yet, Bunko has no intention to have an apprentice. After lots of mishaps, Mameda is taken in and needs to prepare for going through the tough path of being an artist.
