2. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 1 Recap

The first episode of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes titled “I’m Here” started with the brief explaination about quirks, and how the superhuman society came to be. The narrator then proceeded to say that the current story took place a few years before Midoriya Izuku and his friends became heroes. The next scene introduced the main character of the series, Haimawari Kouichi, a university student who happened to watch All Might save a few civilans from a villain. As he watched in awe, he realised that he was late to his part time job and rushed himself to get there, only to get stopped by a few goons.

He almost immdiately groveled on the floor for mercy, but the folk didn’t seem willing to let him off easy, so one of them raised his foot to kick him, but Kouichi used his quirk, which has something to do with sliding on the floor to escape from them. His quirk, called slick and slide allows him to glide across surfaces, but it doesn’t offer him a speed significant enough to make the quirk useful, so he as well as the general public looks down on the quirk.

On his way to his job, he came across an idol called Pop Step, who was making her street performance using her leap quirk, which made Koichi jealous, as he found her ability to leap through the sky to be far more useful than his own. Right after he snapped back to reality, he realised that he was late for work, and rushed over to the conveniece store only to get berated by the manager who told him his pay would be deducted. It was just when Koichi thought his situation couldn’t get worse that the goons that he escaped from earlier entered the shop.

Koichi got beat up pretty bad after this, and went home really frustrated. It turned out that Koichi was such a gem, because he used to take his frustration out by cosplaying All Might and helping strangers out in the littlest of ways. Amidst his “hero” work, he came across Pop Star, who seemed to have taken an interest in him. While they were making small talk, they bumped into the same goons from earlier, who were up to no good again. The caught hold of Pop Step, and tried to abuse her, and Koichi who had the heart of a true hero could not let her be, so he tried to stop them and got attacked in the process.

One of the villains Koichi was up against had a quirk that could generate spikes from his body, and he was about to hurt Koichi with the spikes, but the timely intervention of a man who suddenly jumped into a pile of garbage bags beside Koichi startled everyone enough to keep momentarily Koichi away from harm. The man who made his apperance called himself knuckleduster, and proclaimed himself to be a hero. He then went ahead and beat all the goons up in single blows, and even took a look at their tongues after defeating them.

The man then took Kouichi away because he found him promising, and then revealed to him that he wasn’t a real hero, but he was still carrying out hero activities. He then told him he was searching for people using a certain drug called Trigger that turned humans into villains. People who used the drug would have their tongues turn black, which was indicative of drug use. He planned on walking about the streets and have strangers stick their tongues out. A concerned Kouichi decided to stick with Knuckleduster out of public concern.

3. What To Expect In Episode 2 of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes?

The first episode of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes ended with Knuckleduster trying to rough up a normal salaryman. He was stopped by Eraser head in the process, who thought he was a villain. In the upcoming episode, we will get to see how Knuckleduster manages to clear the misunderstanding. Since Pop Step suggested a much more viable method for searching Trigger users, we may see them put her plan into action.

The preview for the upcoming episode also revealed that Kouichi would call himself a hero in the upcoming episode, his hero name being “Crawler”, which is quite apt considering his quirk. The preview teased how Kouichi would get into a huge mess in episode two, which would likely be caused by the goon from earlier who used Trigger. Aizawa will also have an apperance in the episode, so stay tuned!
