My Hero Academia reveals the truth about Multiple Quirks Research

My Hero Academia features a world full of evolved humans who develop superpowers called quirks, but so far in the series the only human we’ve seen with multiple quirks was All For One. The series teased the idea that multiple quirks in a single body are impossible! The superpowers exist in solitude, but they do mutate with each generation. This made the origins of Nomu(s) mysterious, i.e. until now.

Turns out, a physician cracked the code and devised a way to give people multiple Quirks with a not-so-humane method. A recent chapter of the My Hero Academia manga showed Dr. Ujiko(the brains behind Nomu) telling Shigaraki Tomura about his research and his method to create Nomu.

“With each passing generation, Quirks become more mixed, more complex, more ambiguous, more powerful, and more numerous. Though our memory expands faster and faster, our hardware doesn’t evolve quickly enough to keep up. There will eventually come a point when people lose control,” the doctor told Shigaraki.

“Unless we can tweak the hardware to accommodate our expanding memory, the human race will become unsustainable.”

The human body is weak, with drawbacks to every quirk, from stamina to severe muscle damage, humans just cannot sustain their quirks in the long term. Dr. Ujiko strongly believed in this fact and on request from All For One, he dove into the research to make the human body evolve more rapidly. All For One feared that he might need this research to sustain the hundreds of quirks he stole. As it turned out, the research was needed by All For One, however Dr. Ujiko kept going because of his belief that mankind will soon need an upgrade. With a surgery about to go down on Shigaraki, Ujiko is gonna gear up his work and go all out in his Quirk Transfer Research.
