Izuku is slowly learning the true depths of his quirk, but we can all agree to just how much the timid little boy from episode 1 has grown. As Izuku attempts to know more about One for All, his interactions with All Might give us more insight to the quirk’s history.
Chapter 257 of the series, titled “Pass It Forward, to Whomever”, gives us a terrifying detail about One for All’s past and teases the death of All Might.
The chapter begins with the All Might meeting with Izuku and Bakugo. He shows them a notebook containing the details of the quirks of One for All’s previous holders. The notebook goes as far back as the 4th user of the quirk. It also reveals that the 5th user of One for All, Daigoro Banjo a.k.a. Lariat is the person who manifested Blackwhip.
During the conversation, Bakugo constantly ridicules the quirks that Izuku will eventually receive as most of them are quite weak. He comes to the conclusion that they were all weaklings and All Might agrees, saying that most of the quirk’s holders died at a young age.
Most of them were not chosen, per se, they picked the quirk up in the heat of battle and in dark times. Due to their lack of experience, One for All vessels died in battle against All for One due to its overwhelming capacity for destruction. The chapter’s name itself also implies this.
Being a typical Shonen manga, BNHA won’t be killing off Izuku anytime soon. Still, this detail about the quirk’s history teases the death of All Might, and it would make sense in the story building as this loss would motivate Izuku to be better.
