The chapter starts with a small scene where Re-Destro makes a speech about how he has sown the seeds for his definition of genuine freedom.
We then switch to 6 hours after the raid on Tartarus, within a matter of hours, the escapees from Tartarus along with Shigaraki and his men take down seven maximum security prisons causing mayhem all over the place.
AFO is still in control of Shigaraki’s body. After the prison raids, Shigaraki’s comrades ask AFO’s intentions as he isn’t the person they chose to follow. AFO responds by confirming that he has the same intentions as Shigaraki. For the time being, he decides to let Shigaraki’s body fully recover.
The scene shifts to 2 days later at Central Hospital, where all of the surviving heroes are recovering. We see that Bakugo, Todoroki, and Aizawa are recovering.
Bakugo shows concern for Todoroki and Deku’s well-being internally while acting angry on the outside. Todoroki decides that he will be the one to take on Touya instead of Endeavor. Aizawa and Present Mic talk about their comrades who fell.
The chapter ends with the reveal that Deku is showing no signs of recovery.
2. Chapter 298 Speculations/Predictions
I. Prison Escapees
Shigaraki successfully broke AFO out of Tartarus in chapter 297. Alongside AFO, several other prisoners made their way out of this maximum-security prison.
With Muscular, Overhaul, and several others breaking free, it is more than likely that they will appear in front of their old nemesis again. This will result in a moment where the students of UA will be able to demonstrate just how much they have grown.
II. Damage Control
Throughout this National sweep for villains, we saw a lot of twists and turns and many nerve-racking battles. With the end of this arc right around the corner, we will start to see the Heroes performing damage control by helping citizens and providing medical aid to everyone who got injured.
It is likely that some characters like Mirko and Endeavor may not make it out alive due to their grave injuries.
III. Endeavor’s Defeat
Chapter 290 revealed that Dabi is actually Touya Todoroki, Endeavor’s eldest son. Just like Shoto, he has been scarred by his father’s expectations and is out for blood. In his current State, Endeavor is having a hard time breathing so he is at a major disadvantage in this fight
It is very likely that this battle may be Endeavor’s last.
IV. A Brand New Quirk
Chapter 296 showed us Deku awakening yet another quirk passed down from his predecessors. This quirk, known as Danger Sense, is the fourth quirk to manifest inside of Deku’s body.
Undoubtedly, Deku will soon train this quirk to get it under control so that he may use it with ease. A quirk to sense incoming danger will be very helpful in judging scenarios as well as responding to incoming attacks.

The chapter starts by introducing Tartarus, the strongest maximum security prison equipped with unbreakable anti-quirk defenses. We then see one of the guards killed by Shigaraki and the security status turning “red.”
Two guards converse about a new prisoner incoming – Gigantomachia and strike a conversation about why they can’t just kill him. One of the guards speaks ruthlessly against the villains calling them monsters and anti-human, while the other tries to tell him that talking about this is a violation of human rights.
Shigaraki (along with Nomu) continues to muscle his way into the prison while arguing against AFO.
Shigaraki: You’re the one who told me to rest…
AFO: After we get this over with.
Shigaraki: Return…my body.
AFO: You’re the one who wants my power!?
AFO: You spit onto the world who didn’t offer their hand to help you In order to execute that hatred you wanted power. This is the result of your strong-will, therefore this is an important task.
Shigaraki tells AFO that he refuses to be AFO’s pawn, to which AFO replies that he sees Shigaraki as his successor.
The chapter ends as Shigaraki’s raid on the prison is successful, many prisoners escape (including Muscular and Overhaul). We see Shigaraki standing face to face with the imprisoned AFO, saying “Through this vacant era the perfect Evil King is born… This is the story of how I became the greatest evil king“
