Fans of My Dress-Up Darling are quite emotional now as the manga is moving toward its abrupt ending 7 years after the serialization of the manga. The manga will have its last chapter released in the next month, and the bittersweet feeling that comes with this news is too real. The news regarding the ending of the manga came soon after the release of the latest chapter on the official X account of the author, Fukuda Shinichi.
In this article, we’ll reveal the release date of the final chapter of My Dress-Up Darling, along with the reason for its sudden ending that has left many fans displeased.
When Is My Dress-Up Darling Ending?
The author of My Dress-Up Darling, Fukuda Shinichi, has announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the final chapter of the manga will be released on the 21st of March 2025. The manga can be read by purchasing the official volumes on Square Enix.

This announcement was also made on the final panel of the latest chapter. However, it went unnoticed as the unofficial English translation of the chapter did not include the note. Regardless, this is still too sudden of an announcement, considering the fact that most manga normally announce the ending of the series quite a few months prior to the finale.
Why Is My Dress-Up Darling Ending Suddenly?
Considering the fact that the announcement of the final chapter happened just a month before the release of the last chapter, it is clear that this ending was not pre-planned. Most popular manga that has accumulated a decent fan base has always announced the end of their serialization several chapters before the release of the final chapter. This leads us to think that the author, Fukuchi Shinichi, probably had his hands tied and was forced to end the series prematurely.
Rumors about the author’s poor health have circulated among fans a few times previously, which could be one of the reasons why the manga might be having a sudden ending. These rumors stand unconfirmed, and no official statement has been released from the author regarding the sudden ending of the series. However, we can expect to hear from him soon as the fans’ disappointment is clear as day. A major complaint regarding the ending is how the series ended right after the main ship became a couple, which is simply too excruciating for most fans.
A major part of the fandom believes that the series would be better off with an indefinite hiatus rather than ending the series and leaving everyone with a bitter aftertaste. However, this needn’t necessarily be the end though! Since the series is ending abruptly, it could be possible that the author has something else in mind and will be making an announcement about it soon. An apt example of this would be the ending of the Teasing Master Takagi-san, which later received a sequel related to the main couple in their married life.
Is My Dress Up Darling Manga Completed?
One way to measure the completeness of a romance/slice-of-life anime is by checking the relative contentedness of the fandom. Most highly popular romance manga like Horimiya, Kaguya Sama Love Is War, and The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity had quite a few story arcs after the main characters started their relationship. One of the major reasons fans are discontent with My Dress Up-Darling is that Marin and Gojo have just entered a relationship, and most fans had hoped to see a lot happen between them.

Fans also hoped to see more development between Gojo and his grandfather, people discovering Gojo’s costume-making talent, and even possibly a couple-cosplay (by far the most hoped-for). The silver lining in all this is the fact that along with the announcement of the manga finale, season 2 of My Dress-Up Darling has now been confirmed to be in production, so it certainly is true when they say: when one door closes, another opens.
