Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train is just 2 days short of making its debut in Japan.
October 16th marks the return of this exceptional anime and we’re thrilled! However, the wait for this movie has been long and it’s natural to lose track of the events that took place last year.
This article will help you jog your memory about the things you must know before watching Mugen Train!
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’s surge in popularity is no joke. Following the conclusion of the anime, the production of Mugen Train was immediately announced as a direct continuation of the finale.
This anime that debuted only in 2019 managed to become an international hit with only its first season.
Lauded for its lovable characters, excellent animation and engaging plot with its 19th episode serving as a stellar example – fans looked far off awaiting its next adaptation.
13 Mugen Train Arc Adaptation
The film is canon and picks off right after the events of the finale. The anime ends with the Rehabilitation Training Arc from the manga and the movie adapts the entirety of the next arc which is the Mugen Train Arc.
Hence, the movie title. The anime sets the foundation for the upcoming arc in its final episodes.
We see Tanjiro, Inosuke and Zenitsu being assigned to the Mugen (Infinite) Train mission where passengers are disappearing and towards the end, we also see Kyojuro and Enmu on the said train.
12 The Twelve Kizuki
A major cue to remember what the Twelve Kizuki are is the antagonist, Rui. Rui is one of the toughest opponents Tanjiro faces in the anime’s timeline and he is revealed to be one of the Twelve Kizuki.
Now what is it exactly? They’re basically 12 of the most powerful demons hand-picked by Muzan Kibutsuji (the progenitor) himself. The group is divided into Upper Ranks and Lower Ranks of 6.
There is huge disparity of strength between the two. This is evident from Muzan’s disappointment in the Lower Ranks and his decision to massacre the Lower Ranks except for Enmu.
11 Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke Have Trained The Total Concentration Breathing: Constant
This is extremely important to remember because the Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke you’ll watch in the movie are going to be different from the last time you saw them.
Every shounen protagonist has his moment when he powers up or develops his strength to defeat the big bad.
In the final arc of the first season, the Rehabilitation Training Arc, Tanjiro and his friends are taken to the Butterfly Mansion where under the tutelage of Kanao Tsuyuri, they learn to master the perpetual state of Total Concentration Breathing Technique.
10 Kyojuro’s Moral Code
Kyojuro Rengoku is the Flame Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. He abides by a strong moral code and the Demon Slayer Corps’ code.
It is seen in the first season that Kyojuro backs Sanemi in his distrust of Tanjiro. He points out that protection of a demon is a clear violation of the demon slayer code. He also attributes great value to human life.
This is evident from his response to Urokodaki’s promise to commit seppuku. He says that committing seppuku wouldn’t bring back a life that is lost.
9 Enmu Receives Muzan’s Blood
This is an important detail to remember as it can be inferred that the antagonist for the Mugen Train Arc is Enmu.
Enmu first debuts in Episode 26 where he alone is exempted from suffering the fate of the other Lower Rank Kizuki at the hands of Muzan.
In turn, Muzan injects him with his blood making him even more powerful. If a demon manages to survive a blood transfusion from Muzan, they technically have a power-up.
Enmu is Lower Rank One, therefore, he is the strongest in the Lower Rank division. We can expect an intense fight in this arc as well!
8 Enmu Is Ordered to Kill Tanjirou
In the exclusive trailer for Mugen Train released at GSC MidValley, we see Tanjiro clash with Enmu.
However, one must remember that in the final episode, Muzan commands him to kill the Demon Slayer with hanafuda earrings – referring to Tanjirou – in exchange for a promotion to the Upper Rank Kizuki which basically translates to more Muzan blood injections.
So, the encounter between Tanjiro and Enmu will have really high stakes and great action sequences as well (we can count on ufotable for that!)
7 Enmu and Kyojuro Are Already on The Train
The final episode of the anime concludes with a brief scene of Kyojuro riding the Mugen (Infinite) Train and with Enmu smiling atop the train.
Meanwhile, Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke are heading towards the Mugen Train which will soon turn into an exciting battlefield.
Given the flashy and destructive techniques they’re capable of and the number of passengers inside the train, it’ll be quite interesting to see how they flex their strength in such limited space.
6 Tanjiro Uses Hinokami Kagura – a Fire Breathing Technique
The landmark episode of Demon Slayer – the 19th episode – went viral for its beautiful animation and poignant background music.
The praise was so fervent that many anime fans were compelled to try Demon Slayer. But more importantly, the scene in question is quite crucial to the story.
It is the first time Tanjiro uses Hinokami Kagura – a technique passed down through generations in his family.
Fans were astonished to see Tanjiro use a Fire Breathing Technique over his usual Water Breathing one. This also means we’ll see more of this powerful technique!
5 Nezuko Can Use Blood Demon Art
Another crucial development that takes place in this landmark episode is Nezuko’s power-up.
It can be noted that both of them have a power surge after witnessing each other hurt at Rui’s hand. Nezuko’s Blood Demon Art will be very important for her growth as a Demon Slayer.
Her Blood Demon Art is also a fire based technique (definitely not a coincidence) which ignites her blood turning them into engulfing flames.
So, our lovable Nezuko-chan will definitely be a fierce fighter to watch out for.
4 Flame Breathing and Fire Breathing are Different
This is also a subtle yet important detail to remember. In Episode 25, a confused Tanjiro approaches Shinobu for answers regarding his father’s Hinokami Kagura.
Tanjiro refers to it as ‘Fire Breathing’. She claims not to know anything.
However, she adds on that there is a Flame Breathing technique and those who follow it are very strict about calling it Flame Breathing.
Therefore, it is never Fire Breathing. This emphasis implies that what Tanjiro has inherited as family heritage is something that not even the Flame Hashiras had access to. Shinobu then advises Tanjiro to ask Kyojuro about this.
3 Shinobu Recommends Tanjiro For the Mission
Shinobu is one of the first Hashira (aside from Giyu) to warm up to Tanjiro and Nezuko after learning their history and the nature of their bond.
After witnessing Tanjiro’s commitment towards the Demon Slayer Corps, Shinobu’s initial antagonistic feelings toward him changes.
It is seen that Shinobu is the one that recommends Tanjirou for the Mugen (Infinite) Train mission.
After learning about his Fire Breathing technique, Shinobu voices to the Demon Slayer Corps Leader Kagaya Ubuyashiki that Tanjirou is likely to receive the guidance he needs under Kyojuro.
It is apparent that she observed the similarities between the two.
2 Enmu’s Blood Demon Art
This point is merely speculative because the anime never revealed what Enmu’s Blood Demon Art is. But from the official trailers released, we can see that Enmu’s Blood Demon Art is associated with dreams.
In the short span of the trailer, Enmu emphasizes on the word dreaming quite a bit.
“To die while dreaming, how lucky are you?”
Enmu
“Falling deeper into sleep, deep in their dreams”
Enmu
“You are falling…into a dream”.
Enmu
Even Tanjirou’s significant dialogues in the trailer hint towards waking up. This kind of Blood Demon Art will be quite interesting to watch unfold.
1 Kyojuro Will Be a Central Figure in this Arc
Shinobu suggesting Tanjirou for a mission involving Kyojuro is no coincidence.
It is evident from the announcement trailer that we’ll get to see Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, in full action along with his interactions with Tanjirou.
The link between Kyojuro and Tanjirou’s techniques are also not a coincidence.
Therefore, gear up to witness the Flame Hashira in his element and maybe even learn about his background. He’ll definitely be the strongest Hashira we’ll see in action as of now.
