In the second episode, we finally get a flashback into the protagonist’s life as a NEET. As he used to get bullied and body-shamed in the school for being overweight, he shut himself in and refused to even leave his room.

As he did not even bother to leave for his parents’ funeral but rather entertained himself with adult content instead, his (presumably) siblings threw him out of the house. With no destination in mind, as he wandered about in the streets, he noticed a truck about to ram into school students and jumped in to save them.

Back in the reincarnated world, time flies as Rudy trains with Roxy for two years. With him turning five, it is revealed that the country has no custom of celebrating birthdays every year. Instead, they throw a big party for every fifth birthday.

As Rudy enjoys his birthday being celebrated after so long, he also receives presents. His dad gifts him a sword, and his mother gives him a book. While Roxy gifts Rudy a Magic Stone Wand.

Roxy also declares that she will be holding a graduation for Rudy in the coming day. The next day, she takes him outside the village for the first time and helps Rudy face his trauma. After traveling to a distance in an open space, Roxy teaches Rudy a sacred-level water magic.

With that, Roxy has nothing else to teach Rudy and leaves the village to travel the world and hone her magical abilities over again. She gives Rudy a charm from her hometown as a graduation gift, as she leaves him with knowledge, experience, technique, and most importantly, the courage to step outside.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is a light novel written by Rifujin na Magonote and illustrated by Shirotaka. The light novel series began publishing from January 23, 2014, in Kadokawa’s Media Factory.

Currently running with 22 published volumes, the series inspired a manga adaptation by Yuka Fujikawa. The series has also inspired an anime adaptation directed by Manabu Okamoto, with character designs by Kazutaka Sugiyama and animation by Studio Bind.

The light novel series revolves around the adventures of Rudeus Greyrat who is a reincarnation of a 34-year-old NEET who was killed saving a stranger from an accident.
