The days when gamers used to glorify chunky GPUs seem to be fading fast. The slimmer, the better is the cry of the gamers right now.
MSI recently announced their lineup of 20 models featuring the GAMING SLIM design. There are also six new cards in the lineup, with the RTX 4090 and the RTX 4080 GAMING SLIM variants, each available in a black and white variant. These cards are notably slimmer.
The RTX 4090’s thickness has reduced from 77mm to 62mm. This means there’s a significant decrease in the weight from 2.17kg to 1.78kg.
The RTX 4080 GAMING SLIM, on the other hand, has lost less weight at a minor decrement of 203 grams. This means the RTX 4080 has gone from 1.87 kg to 1.67kg.
The RTX 4080 GAMING TRIO complies with the 3-slot specification now. Changes to the backplate have also been made because of the reduction in thickness.
Many gamers are concerned about the ventilation and airflow in the SLIM CARDS, given that the air inside the card has less space to move in.
MSI has thought it through and made perforations on the backplate to ensure airflow is not restricted. It must be kept in mind that there are no alterations to the clock speeds.
This means that the GPUs will ship at factory clock speeds. The TDP is assumed to remain similar, if not slightly decreased.
Since board partners do not provide TDP limits, confirmation is being awaited. This lucrative design will attract more fans to Nvidia’s RTX offerings. The hefty pricing of the cards might be the only issue against Team Green.
