Disney+ has been churning out content one after the other this year after the pandemic delayed several projects for a year. However, it looks like some shows still have to wait to see the light of day on the streaming platform.
For fans who were waiting for MCU’s Ms. Marvel or Season 3 of The Mandalorian, will, unfortunately, have to wait some more as they will supposedly not premiere until 2022.
The Mandalorian brought a ton of new subscribers for Disney+ and is the first live-action Star Wars show. With MCU also making new shows for the streamer, the respective fan bases make a huge percent of its subscribers.
According to Collider, The Mandalorian will not go into production until late 2021 or early 2022. The delay in production is partly due to Pedro Pascal being busy filming HBO’s TV adaptation of The Last of Us video game series.
Another reason being that Lucasfilm’s Los Angeles stages are currently occupied with another Star Wars show, Obi-Wan Kenobi, starring Ewan McGregor.
But on the upside, the Mandalorian spinoff series titled The Book of Boba Fett recently wrapped filming and is slated for a release later this year.
As for Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel series, TVLine’s Matt Webb Mitovich reported, “It is very safe to assume at this point that Ms. Marvel is now on track for an early 2022 premiere.”
This comes shortly after Marvel announced a November release for the upcoming Hawkeye series starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld. Fans were left wondering when the studios would give an update on Ms. Marvel as production for the show concluded in May.
After her introductory series, Ms. Marvel will also appear alongside Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel in The Marvels, which recently began filming.
In The Walt Disney Company’s Q3 Earnings Call, they discussed many of their upcoming projects, but these two shows were not mentioned in this year’s list. (via Alex Zalben)
The exact release dates for these shows are still unknown. If one has to guess, given that the filming for the Marvel series has already concluded, Ms. Marvel will likely arrive on Disney+ before The Mandalorian does.
About Ms. Marvel
Ms. Marvel is an ongoing American television miniseries created by Bisha K. Ali for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics character Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Kamala is a 16-year-old Muslim Pakistani-American from Jersey City who writes superhero fan fiction, particularly about her idol, Captain Marvel. Having dreamed about becoming a superhero herself, Kamala discovers she has superpowers and dons the mask of Ms. Marvel.
Ms. Marvel will serve as a setup for the film The Marvels (2022), in which Vellani will reprise her role as Kamala. The series is produced by Marvel Studios, with Ali serving as head writer and Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah leading the directing team. Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, with Saagar Shaikh, Aramis Knight, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur also starring.
