In last week’s episode, things get tense at the Mayor’s office as the new I team has been occupying a lot of the Mayor’s time and attention, giving very little space for the core team to have themselves be heard.
Neil comes up with a plan to spend the afternoon playing golf with the core team to ease the tension but it ends up backfiring because they still couldn’t get any of their ideas heard.
Mikaela realizes that her award isn’t as meaningful as she thought it was and that LA’s homelessness problem is worse than ever.

After talking to Orly, Neil realizes that he should take some time out to actually listen to his staff’s ideas. He actually strikes gold with Jayden’s idea to have LA’s ‘sister’ cities visit for a special meeting to discuss ideas about how to improve their cities.
Meanwhile, Mikaela asks James from the I team to help her obtain a more accurate reading of the increase in the homeless population despite the backlash it might bring.

Mr. Mayor Season 2 Episode 2 Recap
Mikaela is preparing for an event where she is being honored on a 30 under 30 list.
The staff holds their morning meeting and there is growing resentment amongst Arpi and the rest since the Mayor has been spending most of his time with the I team. He has inside jokes with them and they are working on an exciting new venture together.
Neil senses the tension during the meeting and asks Mikaela about it later. She uses the analogy of sibling rivalry to explain what’s going on, referring to the I team as the new baby and the core team as the first child.
This conversation prompts Neil to arrange an afternoon playing golf with the core team. The plan backfires as they can’t discuss any of their ideas on the golf tracks and Jayden despises golf apparel.
After her award event, Mikaela runs into a homeless woman named Terry. She offers to drive her to a local homeless shelter for women.
When Mikaela returns to the office, one of the I team members tells her that he didn’t know she got an award for helping combat homelessness and that the data is botched and the real numbers suggest that homelessness has actually gone up.
