The G-Man is set to return to the big screens this month in what will be the most explosive MonsterVerse addition to date. ‘Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire’ will see Godzilla and Kong team up to face a ruthless tyrant, i.e., the Skar King!
The monster monkey has had to face a plethora of monsters over the years, but the main focus has always been the G-Man himself. Moreover, he has constantly evolved to be better suited to fight his enemies and save the planet from catastrophe. Therefore, we have seen several versions of Godzilla with varying levels of power over the years.
Without further ado, let’s put on the nerd glasses and start ranking the most powerful iterations of the G-Man seen so far.
1Godzilla (1954)
Not the strongest version of Godzilla, but the 50m behemoth was able to tear through the city of Japan with ease.
Godzilla (1954) was the first film to feature the alpha kaiju, which was shown to cause havoc after being disturbed by the hydrogen bomb testing.
Despite lasting a single film, this version of the lizard was extremely powerful. Although we didn’t see it lock horns with any other kaiju, it can be estimated that Godzilla (1954) was as strong as the battle-hardened Second Showa Era Godzilla.
2Godzilla: The Series (1998-2000)
The Godzilla animated series of 1998 presented a very different iteration of the character. The iguana-inspired creature was inspired by the 1998 live-action American film, but it was much more powerful and shown to side with humans.
The 1998 version of Godzilla is one of the weaker iterations of the G-Man, but it managed to defeat several large creatures in its time on the small screens.
3Second Showa Era Godzilla
The second Showa era Godzilla was one of the most iconic iterations of the kaiju. Godzilla faced a barrage of enemies and other monsters and was involved in crazy fight sequences, convoluted storylines, and Toho’s experiments with weird plotlines.
Ultimately, Godzilla came out as the winner and claimed the title of the King of Monsters.
Although the Showa era featured Godzilla fighting against several juggernauts, the film’s tone was lighthearted. It assured the fans that he’ll always win despite taking some initial hits.
In the second Showa era, Godzilla fought against everyone, including Mechagodzilla and Ghidorah, and succeeded every time.
4Shin Godzilla
Shin Godzilla was Toho’s answer to the 2014 MonsterVerse version of the G-Man.
Shin Godzilla was very different from any previous iteration of the character, and the makers decided to portray him in a villainous role.
Shin Godzilla’s evolving capabilities were so developed that it grew throughout the film, and the final iteration was potent enough to use its atomic breath to slice through the city. Although the beast never faced any other monsters, it was easily one of the stronger iterations of Godzilla.
5King of the Monsters
The Legendary version of Godzilla is one of the biggest and most potent versions of the kaiju to ever exist.
Having defeated the mighty Ghidorah, bested Kong, and eradicated the MUTOS, the MonsterVerse version of Godzilla already has an impressive resume.
The MonsterVerse Godzilla has proclaimed himself as the true God on Earth and has always been a reluctant ally of humans. Despite causing mayhem in almost every appearance, the G-Man has never been seen as a villainous character and has always been portrayed as the planet’s protector.
6Burning Godzilla In Godzilla vs Destoroyah (1995)
Godzilla vs. Destoroyah is remembered as one of the best films of the Heisei era. The Godzilla films of the Heisei era were not as lighthearted as the Showa era creatives and dealt with extremely serious themes.
However, it all culminated when the G-Man locked horns with Destoroyah, and it proved just how strong that version of the character was.
Godzilla defeated Destoroyah by entering his final burning form after his heart started working like a nuclear reactor.
Although the G-Man didn’t survive the meltdown, he was in the burning state long enough to kill Destoroyah.
7 Final Wars Godzilla
Godzilla: Final Wars marked the conclusion of the Millennium series. This movie featured an all-inclusive roster of monsters for Godzilla to fight while aliens tried to take over the Earth.
This rendition of Godzilla proved too hot to handle for any monster as he defeated all the kaijus within a very short time before going into the ocean for a surprisingly peaceful ending.
8Godzilla: Minus One
Toho’s most recent creation, Godzilla: Minus One, saw a variant of Godzilla unlike any we’ve seen. It was not as ginormous as some others on the list, but it had one of the most destructive atomic breaths seen in the franchise’s history.
In one iconic scene, Godzilla unleashes his full power on Ginza, creating a fatal shockwave unlike anything seen in the franchise before. This blast alone makes it capable of pulverizing any kaiju in a single explosion of that deathray.
9 The Planet Eater
The absolute peak of any version of Godzilla seen so far belongs to the Reiwa Era anime movies. The evolution of Godzilla Earth peaks during the end of the first film. The version is not entirely evil, but he’s so large that the sheer presence is enough to drive humanity away from the planet.
The Planet Eater can easily fight city-sized monsters and intergalactic versions of Ghidorah and is genuinely the most devastating version of Godzilla seen in the franchise’s history.
