Most Anticipated Summer 2024 Anime, Ranked!

The upcoming Summer 2024 lineup is packed with anime series and movies, with much-awaited sequels to anime like Tower of God, Kimi ni Todoke, and Kinnikuman. The season also brings sequels to recent hits like Oshi no Ko, Kengan Ashura, Shy, etc.

Amidst them, P.A. Works will release three anime this summer, an original, a manga, and a game adaptation. In contrast, Gaina will release a brand new adaptation of the 1975 mecha anime, former Kyoto Animation veterans will be releasing a movie produced by Science Saru and Tatsuki Fujimoto’s one-shot Look Back is finally getting the most-awaited movie adaptation.

This is the third entry on this list, a P.A. Works anime. This time, it’s a game adaptation, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. Sakuna is a spoiled harvest goddess banished from her celestial home to an island dominated by demons. In Hinoe Island, she fights these demons while harvesting rice with the help of her guardian, Tama, and a group of outcasted humans. On this island, she must rediscover her birthright as the harvest goddess.

Mira is the leader of an evil organization whose only goal is to conquer and destroy everything. Their target is Earth this time, but he finds a magical girl named Byakuya Mimori standing up against his evil pans. Much to his surprise, he fell in love with Mimori.

FACT: The manga remains unfinished due to the author’s passing, with only 3 volumes comprising 21 chapters. So, you don’t have to worry about a sequel unless the production team wants to continue it as an anime original.

7. Isekai Suicide Squad

6. The Elusive Samurai

Na Nare Hana Nare follows the lives of six girls with six different personalities, each with dreams, problems, and worries. These six high school girls might change the monotonous world around them.

Honobu Yonezawa, the author who brought you Hyouka is also the original creator of this new anime adaptation. Honobu’s love to make mundane things as the main protagonist of his stories also continues in this anime.

The story is about Kobato, who wants to lead a peaceful and normal life after a painful incident. He comes across a like-minded girl named Osanai, who also wants to live an ordinary life. Although they began high school with that as their ultimate goal, things didn’t go as planned. They were dragged into continuous events shrouded in mysteries and disasters.

3. Grendizer U

Planet Fleed is destroyed by the forces of King Vega. Duke Fleed, the crown prince, is the only survivor who fled and found his new home on Earth. Years later, King Vega has his eyes on Earth, but this time, with the power of the super robot Grendizer, Duke decides to fight back.

Grendizer U is an alternative version of the 1975 mecha anime UFO Robo Grandizer with 74 episodes.

Look Back is a movie adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s critically acclaimed one-shot that received global recognition.

Ayumu’s four-panel manga in the school newspaper is celebrated as the best artwork in her class. One day she was asked to leave one of her slots to Kyomoto, a truant student. When Kyomoto’s work gets published alongside hers, it receives praise for the highly detailed artwork making Ayumu jealous.

Ayumu starts polishing her skills to beat Kyomoto, but soon enough quits making manga altogether. However, things changed when Ayumu met Kyomoto on graduation day while she was delivering the latter’s certificate.

The Colors Within follows the story of a high school girl, Totsuko, who can see people’s emotions as colors. She can see the colors of happiness, sadness, calm, fright, and every other emotion. However, she continuously reads the environment around her to avoid darkening these colors. She forms a band with a girl and a boy with beautiful colors.
