Mortal Kombat 2: New Logo Hints at the Arrival of Johnny Cage

Mortal Kombat 2’s filming starts, and the new logo, seemingly inspired by the new character, Johnny Cage, is revealed.

Warner Bros. brings back the gory action of NetherRealm’s iconic fighting game franchise in Mortal Kombat 2, the sequel to the hit adaptation that introduced Lewis Tan as Cole Young, a descendant of the legendary warrior Scorpion.

Cole will face new challenges and enemies in the sequel, along with some familiar faces from the first film.

One of them is Johnny Cage, a fan-favorite character from the original 1992 game who was missing from the first movie. Cage is a cocky and charismatic action star who is also a skilled martial artist. He will be played by Karl Urban, who joins the cast of Mortal Kombat 2 as filming gets underway.

Ludi Lin, who plays Liu Kang, shared a photo from the set on Instagram, revealing the film’s new logo, which seems to be inspired by Cage’s sunglasses.

Lin gave us a sneak peek of the sequel’s logo by posting a picture of a clapperboard from the set. The logo looks fantastic, with a dragon wrapped around a bright green “II.”

It also hints at Johnny Cage’s special powers that he inherited from his ancestors and that he can unleash in battle.

Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat

Johnny Cage is a fan-favorite fighter who debuted in the original Mortal Kombat game. He was lured into the tournament to prove that his martial arts skills were real.

However, he soon found himself fighting for the fate of Earthrealm against the evil Outworld invaders.

In the new Mortal Kombat movies, Johnny joins Special Forces and becomes a mentor to Cole, the hero of the first film. Cole went looking for Johnny in Los Angeles after the credits rolled, so we expect them to team up in Mortal Kombat 2.

However, they won’t be alone. The sequel will also introduce some new faces from Outworld, including some of the games’ most iconic villains and assassins.

The merciless ruler of Outworld, Shao Khan, has Martyn Ford as his actor. Damon Herriman portrays Quan Chi, the wicked wizard who pulls the strings from behind. Tati Gabrielle and Adeline Rudolph play Jade and Kitana, who are fierce fighters loyal to Shao Khan. Joe Taslim will return as Bi Han, the original Sub Zero who Cole and Scorpion killed.

However, he won’t be the same. He will rise from the dead as Noob Saibot, a dark and twisted version of himself.

The 2021 movie hinted that Johnny would join the fight in Mortal Kombat 2, but the new logo suggests that he might have a more significant part to play as a mentor to Cole.

It could be a fitting way to honor him as one of the oldest characters in the franchise, who was not always a teacher in his previous roles. Johnny’s iconic shades are part of his personality, and fans are eagerly waiting to see how Urban will rock them in the sequel.
