A Sneak Peek at Mortal Kombat 2’s Mysterious Set in New BTS Image

Todd Garner, the producer of Mortal Kombat 2, reveals a new behind-the-scenes image on Twitter that showcases one of the film’s sets and hints at one of the many stages of tournament that features in the film.

The sequel will feature the return of Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan, along with other warriors from Earthrealm and Outworld. The cast will also include Karl Urban, Tati Gabrielle, and Adeline Rudolph as fan-favorite characters from the video game franchise.

Garner posted an image of one of the on-set monitors, showing one of the scenes from the sequel. The monitors display a vague and solitary figure in a dim room, with light filtering through elaborate glass windows.

While Mortal Kombat focused mainly on Earthrealm, Mortal Kombat 2 will broaden and explore the franchise’s wider universe, as new warriors from Outworld join the tournament.

These characters are Jade and Kitana, played by Gabrielle and Rudolph, who are assassins of Outworld’s emperor and franchise antagonist Shao Khan, played by Martyn Ford.

With many of Mortal Kombat 2’s new main cast members being Outworld’s formidable warriors, the location in Garner’s post could be a setting from that realm related to one of the new characters, such as Shao Khan’s rebuilt Temple/Cathedral seen in Mortal Kombat 3 and 9.

The sequel will also introduce Damon Herriman’s Quan Chi, a sorcerer who is not allied with Earthrealm or Outworld and has fortresses in Outworld and the Netherrealm. With Joe Taslim reprising his role as the revived Bi-Han/Sub-Zero, the image could be a sneak peek at one of Quan Chi’s palaces, possibly depicting Bi-Han’s resurrection.

Although Garner’s images may not reveal much at the moment, the producer’s latest update shows the larger scale of Mortal Kombat 2. The film might begin with Cole’s hinted training with Urban’s Johnny Cage.

But it is evident that the sequel will also offer more insight into the fighters of Outworld through the possible scenes set in the new realm. With the sequel bringing in favorites like Kitana, it is reassuring that Mortal Kombat 2 is likely to spend time exploring the realm’s fighters that have not been shown yet.
