Flawless Victory! Mortal Kombat 2 Producer Confirms Filming Start Date

Mortal Kombat’s latest 2021 movie adaptation may have gotten mixed reviews, but it was the most successful iteration of the famous video game after multiple failed attempts. Though the film was not a critical success, Warner Bros. confirmed that a sequel was in development in January 2022.

While there hasn’t been any news so far about when production will start, we finally have the expected dates for when filming will begin for the 2021 film’s sequel. One of the upcoming film’s producers, Todd Garner, confirmed Geek Vibes Nation’s report on Twitter, which stated filming would begin in June 2023 in Australia and possibly wrap by September.

It makes sense that Australia is the shoot location for the Mortal Kombat sequel considering the 2021 film was also primarily shot in Southern Australia. And the three-month timeline expected by Geek Vibes Nation is not completely off since that is how long shooting took for the first film.

Though Garner or WB has not confirmed a release date, the filming dates ensure that the film will be out of post-production and available for the big screen in the second half of 2024.

Lewis Tan, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Jessica McNamee, Ludi Lin, Joe Talisman, and Chin Han have confirmed their returns in the upcoming sequel.

While no new cast members have been announced, Johnny Cage will make his first appearance in the sequel, and we already have three contenders to play him. Joel McHale (Community, Stargirl) is at the top of the list though the casting producers are also looking at Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, Adam Project) and Pro-wrestler The Miz for the role.
