Mortal Kombat 1 has been one of those games where every other person has an entirely different opinion. While some are heaping high praise on the developers, another part of the fan base is far from happy.
Some players of Mortal Kombat 1 have taken to Reddit to point out how some “Kombos” are not working for Player 2. They call this the Player 1 Advantage, meaning that particular Kombos work for Player 1 only. A ticket has been raised on the official NetherRealm forum, which bears the “Investigation in Progress” flag.
This issue is plaguing players in both online and offline multiplayer modes. MrAPchem has posted the video proof of the Player 1 advantage on YouTube.
Many people have started investigating the issue independently. All of them have confirmed that Mortal Kombat 1 suffers from a Player 1 Advantage.
This has reminded many fans of Mortal Kombat 9, and not in a good way. They are drawing a parallel between this issue and how, in Mortal Kombat 9, if P1 and P2 pressed a button on the same frame, P1’s input would override P2’s.
Such issues, which seem minor in words, can turn out to be catastrophic when it comes to competitive matches. Matches can be won or lost if a single combo lands. The stakes are high, and NetherRealm needs to fix it before things go south.
This is not the only issue with Mortal Kombat 1. Despite being praised for its breathtaking visuals, the game suffers from performance bugs and glitches.
The bugs and glitches are most notable on the Nintendo Switch, where players draw comparisons to early 2000s games. It can be expected that NetherRealm will be releasing a patch soon. Until then, it’s Player 1 who will dominate in Mortal Kombat 1, even if Player 2 chooses the Fire God Liu Kang.
About Mortal Kombat 1
Developer NetherRealm Studios has officially revealed Mortal Kombat 1, the next chapter in its long-running fighting game series, which was released on September 19th. It takes on that name, rather than the expected Mortal Kombat 12 name, because–as previous teasers hinted at–Mortal Kombat 1 is a sort-of-reboot of the series and takes place in the New Era timeline established by Liu Kang after he ascended to godhood in 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11.
