Mortal Kombat 12’s First Teaser Reveals an Exploding Grain of Sand

Mortal Kombat fans have been starving for some Mortal Kombat 12 news since it was confirmed.

Rumors point to a full reveal of the game happening later this month, but NetherRealm has finally shared something regarding the upcoming game, even if it’s not much.

Mortal Kombat’s official Twitter account posted a video thanking fans for supporting the franchise for the past 30 years. At the end of that video, an hourglass can be seen dumping out sand. The camera then zooms in on one grain of sand which explodes.

The teaser gave fans a taste of what’s coming, as the hourglass is definitely a nod to Mortal Kombat 11’s story which heavily revolved around the concept of time.

Mortal Kombat 11’s story revolved around Kronika, The Keeper of Time, who manipulated time using an Hourglass artifact, until Liu Kang defeated her and took control of the Hourglass. At the end of the Aftermath expansion, Liu Kang uses the Hourglass to create a new timeline.

Based on the teaser, we can definitely say that Mortal Kombat 12’s story will most likely pick up after the ending of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. It’ll be interesting to see how the story of MK12 follows, considering Liu Kang made an entirely new timeline at the end of Aftermath.

Some fans were left confused after seeing the teaser, with some of them doubting if it was a teaser for the next game. Ed Boon then reposted the video himself with a caption, which basically konfirmed that the bit at the end of the video is indeed a tease for the upcoming game.

Recently, rumors have pointed to a full reveal of Mortal Kombat 12 taking place this month at a PlayStation showcase, which is also rumored to take place this month. We don’t know when the game will have a full reveal, but the teaser only proves that we’re slowly getting there.

Mortal Kombat 12 is currently in development.

Alongside the return of previous gameplay mechanics, the game features a fantastic story, improved graphics, and an even better netcode than previous games, to which it was well-received. However, it fell under heavy criticism for having microtransactions and forcing grind upon players.
