Mortal Kombat 1 is the 12th entry in the longstanding Mortal Kombat franchise. This would be the second reboot of the franchise after 2011’s Mortal Kombat.
The developers NetherRealm have been updating the players regularly regarding the status of the game currently in development. The story of Mortal Kombat 1 will pick up right after the events of Mortal Kombat 11.
Redditor u/Jaimegorevan spotted a tweet where Mortal Kombat’s official Twitter channel replied to a user confirming that the cast for Mortal Kombat 1 would be “Koming very soon.”
This sparked interest amongst the fans ahead of Mortal Kombat 1’s release in September 2023. The game picks up from the defeat of Kronika, leaving the recently anointed Fire God Liu Kang to shape a new timeline under his discretion.
Few characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Johnny Cage will return. In contrast, some characters will strictly appear as Kameo Fighters who can be selected ahead of a match to assist players during matches.
The developers NetherRealm have also hinted at the return of the Kombat Kast on Twitter. Some posts also received responses suggesting that the weekly show could possibly come back.

For those not in the loop, Kombat Kast began as an avenue to promote the release of Mortal Kombat X. It revealed roster members ahead of its April 2015 release.
The show continued for several months and even debuted DLC fighters such as Predator and Jason Voorhees. The show was restarted as a part of Mortal Kombat 11’s promotions and roster announcement in 2019.
For the developers, however, the Kombat Kast announcement comes at a great time after the potential roster of Mortal Kombat 1 was leaked. Fans are looking for official confirmation before its release in September 2023 to have some content to look forward to.
About Mortal Kombat 1
Developer NetherRealm Studios has officially revealed Mortal Kombat 1, the next chapter in its long-running fighting game series, which was released on September 19th. It takes on that name, rather than the expected Mortal Kombat 12 name, because–as previous teasers hinted at–Mortal Kombat 1 is a sort-of-reboot of the series and takes place in the New Era timeline established by Liu Kang after he ascended to godhood in 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11.
