Mortal Kombat 1 Gameplay, Reveal Date and Time Officially Announced

NetherRealm Studios officially revealed Mortal Kombat 1 last week with a gorgeous and brutal cinematic trailer featuring the return of several familiar faces and also giving us a taste of what’s to come in the New Era of Mortal Kombat. Additional details about the game and its mechanics were also revealed after the trailer dropped.

The over-the-top cinematic trailer made fans even more hyped for the eventual gameplay reveal, and since the trailer dropped, fans of the franchise have been wondering when the gameplay will be revealed. Luckily, players won’t have to wait much longer to get a glimpse of how the game actually plays.

Summer Game Fest’s Twitter account officially announced that gameplay for Mortal Kombat 1 will be revealed on Thursday, June 8 at noon PT/ 3 PM ET/ 9 PM CEST. Ed Boon himself will be present live on stage with host Geoff Keighley for the world gameplay premiere of Mortal Kombat 1.

For those that don’t know, Summer Game Fest is an E3-like convention hosted by Geoff Keighley that takes place in early June, and this time seems no different. Summer Game Fest 2023 is expected to run around two hours and will have a plethora of reveals and game announcements from various developers from around the globe.

Mortal Kombat 1 will feature a new fighting system, according to the game’s official website, and will introduce a new gameplay mechanic called the Kameo system. The Kameo system will have Kameo fighters that’ll assist you in battle and will expand the gameplay in more ways than one. It’s still unclear how the mechanic will work but hopefully we’ll get a glimpse of it on June 8.

The gameplay world premiere taking place at Summer Game Fest doesn’t entirely rule out the possibility of Mortal Kombat 1 making an appearance in today’s PlayStation showcase. They could very well release a story trailer, so who knows? We might even get new information or new screenshots from the game, so fingers crossed!

Mortal Kombat 1 launches September 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

About Mortal Kombat 1

Developer NetherRealm Studios has officially revealed Mortal Kombat 1, the next chapter in its long-running fighting game series, which was released on September 19th. It takes on that name, rather than the expected Mortal Kombat 12 name, because–as previous teasers hinted at–Mortal Kombat 1 is a sort-of-reboot of the series and takes place in the New Era timeline established by Liu Kang after he ascended to godhood in 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11.
