Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S

Summary

  • Developers NetherRealm have confirmed that cross-play is coming to Mortal Kombat 1 in February 2024.
  • Crossplay for Mortal Kombat 1 will be limited to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
  • The Nintendo Switch will not receive cross-play because of its hardware and technological limitations.

Mortal Kombat 1 was released after Mortal Kombat 11, serving as a “soft reboot” for the franchise. This is primarily because Liu Kang is the protector of Earthrealm as the God of Fire and Keeper of Time, virtually resetting the Mortal Kombat Universe in Mortal Kombat 1.

Developers of Mortal Kombat 1, NetherRealm studios, confirmed in the latest Kombat Kast episode that crossplay will be released for Mortal Kombat 1 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in February 2024.

Raising the Dead: The Return of Quan Chi

What piqued the interest of most fans is the omission of Nintendo Switch from the list of platforms that will support crossplay. This is because of technological and hardware limitations on the Nintendo Switch, which is far inferior to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

In the same episode of the Kombat Kast, the developers also announced that a Wi-Fi filter will be added to the same update in Mortal Kombat 1.

This Wi-Fi filter will allow players to select opponents based on the internet connectivity. This will enable them to avoid many persistent issues like lag and disconnects.

Along with these changes, there will be several bug fixes, balancing changes, and game adjustments. There will be tweaks to the Kameo fighters, such as Kano and Sonya Blade.

Those who own a copy of Kombat Pack will receive the hotly anticipated Quan Chi on December 14th. Quan Chi releases unconditionally for all players on December 21st.

Even though Nintendo players will not be able to play Mortal Kombat 1 with their friends on other platforms, the announcement of crossplay, rather “Krossplay,” will be a great addition and will allow the online gameplay for Mortal Kombat 1 to expand to all platforms.

About Mortal Kombat 1

Developer NetherRealm Studios has officially revealed Mortal Kombat 1, the next chapter in its long-running fighting game series, which was released on September 19th. It takes on that name, rather than the expected Mortal Kombat 12 name, because–as previous teasers hinted at–Mortal Kombat 1 is a sort-of-reboot of the series and takes place in the New Era timeline established by Liu Kang after he ascended to godhood in 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11.
