In a recently released image of Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, Tom Sturridge is seen holding the Helmet of Dreams. Tom Sturridge stars as the titular hero Sandman in the show, also known as Morpheus and Dream.
The upcoming series is based on Neil Gaiman’s DC Comics series titled The Sandman and follows Morpheus’ journey in restoring order in the kingdom of Dreaming, which he once ruled after escaping from captivity.
The new image was released by EW in collaboration with creator Gaiman and actor Tom Sturridge and reveals a new look of Sturridge as Morpheus.
In the image, Morpheus is seen holding the famous Helmet of Dreams. The helmet has many names, including Dream’s Helm and Mask of Dreams. It is one of Morpheus’ three symbols of power and the primary sigil.
The look in the image seems to be quite an accurate representation of the one from the comics. With Gaiman’s involvement in the development of the series, it is not surprising. If the show remains similarly faithful to the comics in other departments as well, fans can expect quite a literal adaptation.
The Sandman is all set to feature an ensemble cast, including Gwendoline Christie, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Jenna Coleman, and David Thewlis. David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg will be serving as executive producers, along with Gaiman playing a pivotal role.
