Moriarty the Patriot Part 2 is the sequel to the first part of the series, released in Fall 2020. The mystery thriller Shonen is adapted from the manga of the same name which was inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous Sherlock Holmes novels.
The anime revolves around William James Moriarty, the world’s only criminal consultant. However, this tale is twisted in such a way, where Moriarty is portrayed almost as a hero despite his crimes.
Being an upper-class mathematician, Moriarty’s ideals are shaped by compelling and believable motivations. The bright young man, raised in an orphanage and adopted by the nobility, becomes increasingly disgusted by the rampant inequity of the British Empire.
He takes matters into his own hands, making sure that justice is quite literally served to the working-class victims. His ambition isn’t driven by greed but through hopes of burning the unjust world to the ground and building a new equal world in its place.
The complexity behind Moriarty’s motivation makes his character come off as not evil and serves to inject an element of mystery into the series. You should definitely check out Moriarty the Patriot for a unique take on the Sherlock Holmes classics.
