School crushes can make people do crazy things, and ‘More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers’ takes it many steps further.
The romantic comedy follows the story of classmates Akari and Jiro, who are partnered for their school’s couples training program. As if that wasn’t enough, they came to know that their crushes were paired up with each other, which pissed them off even more.
Such crazy romcoms tend to do exceptionally well in terms of popularity, primarily because of their eccentric characters and engaging plot. However, other factors also help a lot, like the visuals and soundtrack.
To make ‘More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers’ one of the best romcoms this year, the staff has paid extra attention to the music. Its latest trailer previews the opening theme, ‘TRUE FOOL LOVE’ by Liyuu, and you can see for yourself how melodious and catchy the tune is.
Unlike the second half, the first one is about Jiro’s young, innocent love and soft scenes between him and his crush Shiori. The song is revealed in the later part of the video when all the craziness begins after Akari and Jiro find out that they’re partners in the project.
The video states how Jiro and Akari are the total opposite of each other, the former being an introvert and the latter being a gyaru. They cooperate and comply with the assignment for personal gain: to get a good score which will grant them the privilege to switch partners.
Though they have begun a fake relationship for their own benefit, it seems like there may be a spark between the pair. As the video ends, we sense a solid romantic tension between the protagonists, which can’t be ignored.
What’s ironic is that Jiro and Akari might hate each other, but this project might just force them to fall in love for real.
As for their crushes, that’s a tale for when the anime premieres on October 9, 2022.
