Ubisoft’s first-party studio and also the team behind the upcoming free-to-play third-person survival shooter The Division Heartland, developer Red Storm Entertainment, has shared new information about the long-awaited game.
The game was officially announced way back in May 2021 but information and updates about the game have been scarce since, with the exception of a small bit of gameplay footage and the message that appears on The Division Heartland’s store page.
New details were finally shared about The Division Heartland. The game got its first cinematic trailer along with a developer deep dive video. It takes place during the events of The Division, in small-town America, showing what happened there when the Dollar Flu started spreading.
The story is pretty similar to the first game. A Division agent, by the name of First Commander Killian Tower, goes rogue and turns on his team after which another agent named Mackenzie Reed tracks him down to Heartland’s setting of Silver Creek, a small town located in middle America. The trailer revealed that the Dollar Flu behaved differently in this region than in other places.
The game will have PvPvE gameplay but will also offer other tasks which are present in the other games like completing missions, protecting civilians etc. PvP will be most effective at nighttime as rogue players and AI enemies will roam the streets, similar to Dark Zone.
Heartland will introduce three classes, unlike previous Division games: Weapons Expert, Medic and Survivalist. Each of these classes will have their own individual perks. The developer deep dive also mentioned that a closed beta is also slated for this year, but a release date is yet to be confirmed. The game is currently in development for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch.
