Moore Threads’ driver update for its desktop GPU MTT S80 on February 20th gives prospective customers and current testers some relief as it looks to improve in both the hardware and software segment of the GPU.
Moore Threads’ V201.21 driver update for the MTT S80 GPU added many new features, adapted new games and motherboards, and fixed many bugs. This also brings VP9/8 10bit video decoding up to 8K resolution and PES monitoring to show metrics.
While there’s no official DirectX11 tessellation or multithreading support, the update sees 21 more games. This makes it 42 games to run on the Chinese Manufacturer’s first GPU.
The new games to be supported by the GPU are:
- Goose and Duck
- Xuanyuan Sword Gaiden: Away from the Clouds
- Xuanyuan Sword Gaiden: Clouds of Han Dynasty
- Xuanyuan Sword Wu: A Sword of Lingyun Mountain and Sea Love
- NBA2K Online
- Afterimage
- “The Scroll Of Taiwu
- Terraria
- Adventure in the rain
- Dead Cells
- Runner 2: Future Legend of the Rhythm Alien
- Battlefield 2
- Hades
- Alien vs. Predator
- Arma 2
- Pro Evolution Football: Pro Evolution Football 2013
- Assault Fire
- Hollow Knight
- Little Bones: Hero Killer
- Cuphead
- Dwarf Fortress
The GPU’s hardware support is limited as it’s in its infancy. Enthusiasts looking to get their hands on the GPU should take care of their motherboard first, as only 18 are currently supported. On top of that, the GPUs run with either Intel 10th Gen and newer or Ryzen 3000/4000/5000 series.
The S80 is purely focused on gamers with 4096 MUSA Streaming cores, running at 1.8GHz, providing with up to 14.4 TFLOPs of performance. While not the primary use case, it can also be used for 3D rendering and AI processing.
The card comes with a PCIe 5.0 x 16 slots, with a bandwidth on its bus of 128GBps. It’s equipped with 16GB of GDDR6 memory. A 255 TGP is provided by one of the 8-pins, capable of powering up to 300W.
The drivers themselves have some caveats such as the very useful PCIe Gen5. For PCIe5 unsupported motherboards, the PCIe rate has to be set from auto to Gen4 rate.
The Resize BAR function needs to be used from the BIOS to enable the motherboard to determine the size and use the MTT S80 accurately.
Despite having so much horsepower under the hood, the lack of integration with updated drivers puts it down the pecking order for gamers in terms of buying preference.
While it’ll be the last choice for any gamer looking to get a GPU in 2023, it should also be noted that the roadmap points towards a bright and cheerful future and it could end up being a solid competition for the likes of Nvidia.
