Marc’s scales are finally balanced when Steven falls off the boat and his soul is claimed by the Duat as he freezes into the sand permanently.
This sends Marc to paradise. Now that he has confronted the most brutal realities of his life, will Marc finally be at peace? It’s still unclear if Marc was really in a mental hospital all this time.
If he was, will he be released now that he has confronted his childhood trauma?

Moon Knight Episode 5 Recap
The episode starts with Marc’s doctor telling him he’s in a medical facility in Chicago and that his mind is rapidly oscillating between fiction and reality.
He starts to get overwhelmed and the nurses sedate him, pushing him back to his earlier vision of the hippo along with Steven next to him. The Hippo tells them that Marc, and by extension Steven, has died, and welcomes them to the realm of ‘Duat.’
The Hippo tells them they must navigate through the boat as it is full of a lifetime of memories and find the truth that will balance the scales or else the Duat will claim their souls. As they walk down the hallway, they see several memories through the doors.
Steven hears a little boy’s scream and follows the sound to arrive at a room that was full of the people Marc had murdered when he was serving as Khonshu’s Avatar.
In the room, they come across a little boy and Steven follows the boy to one of the rooms despite Marc’s attempts to stop him. Steven uncovers Marc’s traumatic memory of his little brother drowning.
Marc’s mother blamed him for the accident and his brother’s death. As Steven is about to uncover another one of Marc’s memories, Marc pushes him and the two of them land in the desert on the night that Layla’s father was killed.
Just as the scales are about the be balanced, they see souls being sent to the otherworld before their time.
Steven finally comes face to face with the reality to deal with his abusive childhood and how he started gaining control of Marc’s body more often after his mother died.
