The Netflix True Crime series, “Monster” is back for a yet another bone-chilling season, and this time, it’s all about the cold-blooded Ed Gein.
When Will Monster Season 3 Be Released?
As of now, Netflix hasn’t announced any exact date for the release of Season 3. But given that Charlie Hunnam’s casting was announced during a promotional event for Monster Season 2 (debuted in September 2023), it can be safely assumed that Season 3 is in its early stages at the moment.
Hence, with their production and release tendency in view, we can reasonably expect the third season to be out in the last quarter of 2024.
Cast and Characters: Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein
Charlie Hunnam is Ed Gein! The Sons of Anarchy star is known for his immaculate and strong screen presence, and thus seems like to be just the right choice for Ed Gein.
As we are aware, Ed Gein is infamous for his extremely gruesome crimes in the 1950s, including murder, aggravated robbery, and worse, creating household items out of human remain.
Plot: The Grisly Tale of Ed Gein
Ed Gein’s crimes left the world shocked when authorities unearthed the extent of his gruesomeness. Hailing from the place where even Jeffrey Dahmer grew up (Wisconsin), Gein’s macabre obsessions saw the light of the day after the death of his mother.
He not only killed multiple people, but also performed extremely grotesque experiments on exhumed bodies from local cemeteries. He went to unimaginable lengths in this harrowing bit of his work, even creating clothing and household items from human skin and bones.
Hmph. That was a hard read. But fans, beware, Season 3 is going to dig deeper into that story, especially with Hunnam leading the charge. Gein’s story is about crime and horror indeed, but it also raises critical questions about mental illness, abuse, and the effects of extreme isolation that he lived in after his mother’s death.
The troubled mind of this serial killer would be explored by the director Paris Barclay, and it would be revealed how his twisted relationship with his mother led to his madness.
What to Expect from Monster Season 3
With the camera now moving on to Ed Gein, Season 3 is all set to paint its tone to even darker shades of grey. Gein’s story doesn’t end at the murders or their horror, and instead carries on to the gruesome aftermath as well.
From grave-robbing to his deranged use of human remains, Ed Gein truly became one of the most horrible ‘monsters’ in true crime history. The shock of his crimes infected Plainfield and spread out all over the fifty states and beyond.
Like the previous seasons, fans can expect the coming season to strike a balance between showing his monstrous side while simultaneously assessing his mental state, drawing critical parallels to the real-world effects of leaving mental illness untreated while it worsens with extreme isolation.
The Trailer: What We’re Hoping to See
Although the trailer isn’t officially out yet, it’s safe to assume that it is going to have an even more chilling tone.
With the show’s characteristic dark grey aesthetic, the trailer will surely raise anticipation (and the hair on the back of your neck) for what can be seen as a deeply disturbing season.
Recap of Monster Season 2: The Menendez Brothers
Before we go deeper into Gein’s mind, it makes sense to talk about season 2. This one’s about Erik and Kyle, the infamous Menendez brothers, who were convicted for the brutal murders of both of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez.
Season 2 premiered in September 2023, and dove deeper into their history, family dynamics, and everything under the sun that led to the killings.
S2 stars Nicholas Alexander Chavez (as Erik) and Cooper Koch (as Lyle Menendez) portrayed masterfully the roles of the infamous brothers, while Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny were cast as their parents.
The courtroom drama depicts to the viewers the brothers claim of how they acted in self-defense against the years of abuse inflicted upon them by their father.
The drama, the frenzy, the media attention; everything has been covered by the series, well enough to keep all of us hooked to know the truth.
And let’s not forget Dahmer. Season one had quite the ability to humanize even the darkest of characters, and it got all the praise it deserved for the same. The horror, the terror, and the darkness of all these characters in both the seasons have been shown in the best possible ways, thanks to the highly talented crew.
It’s going to be a chilly Halloween!
