Korean Money Heist Teaser Shows Professor and Task Force Leader in Action

The Swoon Netflix released a title announcement teaser featuring the first look at the Korean remake of La Casa de Papel, the insanely popular Spanish heist show.

The Korean remake is titled Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, which might be a satirical take on the South and North Korea demilitarization zone, Joint Security Area.

With some of the biggest South Korean names attached to the remake, the teaser shows the first look of Money Heist: Korea in action.

It features Yoo Ji-tae, the iconic actor from Oldboy, as the Professor, and Kim Yunjin as Woojin/Raquel Morillo, the lead inspector of the task force handling the heist case.

The mastermind Professor seems to be plotting the biggest heist of Korea and walks over to a wall of masks. The signature Money Heist mask hangs in the center, with various masks on the side worn during traditional Korean festivals.

The clip also introduces Woojin in action, as she is surrounded by hackers and officers on her sides while investigating the heist. The teaser also reveals the entire cast of the remake.

There are multiple fascinating takeaways from the teaser. The first one is the scene getting cut off before viewers can see the Professor’s choice of mask.

Interestingly, veteran actor Park Hae-soo, who skyrocketed to global fame through Squid Game, teased that the Korean version has its own special mask in the remake announcement. The actor will be taking up the role of Berlin.

Though similar in the storyline, Money Heist: Korea is believed to have been adapted to suit the Korean culture and language. A significant change might be a wholly different yet local traditional mask.

During a Squid Game interview, Park Hae-soo also revealed that Berlin’s notorious character would have “a good reason” for being the unbearable-but-fan-favorite way he is in the Korean version. So, viewers can expect minor tweaks in the characters’ storylines, too.

Meanwhile, a release date for the Netflix show hasn’t yet been revealed but it is scheduled to be some time this year.
