Dandadan has been in the spotlight for quite a while now. This should come as no surprise since it is quite a unique piece in the shounen genre. Of all the things in the anime that aren’t quite clear yet, Momo’s abilities top the list. Besides her vague description, we’ve got nothing else so far.
In this article, we’ll be going into the specifics of Momo’s abilities, her limits, and even her skill set. We’ll be going into spoilers from the manga as well, so do be mindful.
1. Who Is Momo Ayase?
Momo Ayase is a high school girl with psychic abilities who serves as one of the main protagonists of the series. She is quite an attractive girl with short hair and brown eyes. Apart from her appearance, she’s quite feisty and has a short temper.
Her encounter with Okarun and her visit to a paranormal site where aliens were spotted is what triggered her psychic abilities to awaken.
2. What Are Momo’s Abilities?
One of Momo’s primary abilities is her psychokinesis which allows her to control objects around her (living beings too). Her powers take on the form of a large invisible hand that can take hold of objects and people.
Besides this, she is also capable of seeing the aura that surrounds people and objects. Her ability to manipulate this aura is where the utility of her ability comes from.
Momo uses her psychokinesis to lift really heavy objects and throw them around. She is also capable of throwing projectiles to attack the same way.
I. Momo’s Full Strength
In the first episode of Dandadan, we got to see Momo in an elevated state, where she had a blue aura that enveloped her. She was invincible in this state and had many more abilities: she could levitate and had monstrous strength as well.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much revealed about this state of hers, but her grandmother believes that with enough amount of training, she should be capable of unlocking her hidden powers.
3. Momo’s Battle Prowess
Momo is quite the asset during the battle for a multitude of reasons, her psychic abilities being the biggest reason. However, there’s more to her than just her powers.
Momo is really quick-witted when it matters the most. Her reaction time and her ability to make tactics to win fights have saved their lives plenty of times. Even Okarun has praised her for this while they were running away from Turbo Granny.
Besides this, she also has quite a lot of endurance, as she can take a barrage of attacks and still maintain consciousness and the ability to continuously plot while being attacked.
Finally, Momo is also quite skilled in hand-to-hand combat. Anime fans are yet to see this, but during the Cursed-House Arc, Momo took on the entire Kito family, and held her own there just with her fighting skills and psychic powers.
4. About Dandadan
‘Dandadan’ is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ service since April 2021. An anime television series adaptation produced by Science Saru is set to premiere in 2024.
Momo Ayase is a high school student who believes in ghosts, but her classmate Okarun believes in aliens instead. To determine who is correct, they make a bet and decide to visit locations associated with both the occult and the supernatural separately.
Ayase visits places related to ghosts, while Okarun visits sites about aliens. When they reach their respective areas, they discover they are only half-right. It turns out that both aliens and ghosts exist.
