Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III promised great things. However, developers Activision and Sledgehammer fell short of their promises, and users and fans of the franchise are far from happy.
After many less-than-favorable reviews and experiences shared by fans online about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, which was released on November 3rd on Early Access, it has become the lowest-rated Call of Duty title with a Metacritic score of 45 for the PC version, 53 for the PlayStation 5, and 62 for the Xbox Series X|S.
It must be kept in mind that the Metacritic scores are out of 100. Many reviewers have mentioned that CoD: Modern Warfare III has an underwhelming experience for a game designed and released in 2023.
Fans and enthusiasts of the Call of Duty franchise feel like much of the content is recycled. This has led to many negative reviews, reflected in the low Metacritic score of 45 for the PC version.
This is the first time a mainline Call of Duty title has hit the low 40s of the Metacritic scores. Even the 50s were unheard of. The lowest the franchise has ever seen was Call of Duty: Ghosts, which got 68/100 on Metacritic.
If the past Metacritic scores are anything to go by, the general trend has been downhill since Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 came out In 2018. Modern Warfare I, the new version, got 81, Black Ops Cold War got 76, and Vanguard got 72, followed by a slightly better-made Modern Warfare II, which got 79.
Currently, Metacritic rating is based on over 50 evaluations. However, the ratings are expected to change for the worse, given that fans are unhappy with the title.
Bloomberg also reported that Modern Warfare III was developed in just 16 months, which corroborates the low ratings that the players give the title. It can be hoped that Activision and Sledgehammer will learn their lesson and develop better titles in the future that will do justice to the franchise.
