Modern Warfare 2 Announces Total Number of Weapons and Weapon Platforms at Launch

With just a little over one week left for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to release worldwide on October 28, Activision Blizzard and Infinity Ward have revealed the total number of weapons and weapon platforms that will be available at launch.  

Infinity Ward and Activision Blizzard have confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will feature 33 weapon platforms and a grand total of 51 unique weapons, with all of them being available at launch itself. Its 2019 predecessor had 39 weapons available at launch.  

Modern Warfare 2 is set to feature one of the most customisable weapon and handling experiences available in the franchise.  

It is common knowledge that the weapon system has been heavily revamped for Modern Warfare 2. The brand new weapon platform system helped Infinity Ward to introduce a variety of different sub-variants of a single specific gun. A popular example would be the Lachmann platform, which is Modern Warfare 2’s equivalent of Heckler & Koch.  

In Infinity Ward’s latest pre-release blog, they stated that Modern Warfare 2’s Gunsmith 2.0 is incredibly expansive, with 33 weapon platforms available in the game, allowing players to unlock up to 51 unique weapons at launch.  

Going into details and specifics, the game will feature ten assault rifles, seven submachine guns, three sniper rifles, six marksman rifles, four battle rifles, six light machine guns, four shotguns, five sidearms, and four launchers. Along with these, players can expect a secondary melee weapon and a riot shield as well.  

Modern Warfare 2’s Gunsmith 2.0 aims to satisfy players by providing a vast variety of customisable options. From the beta itself, we saw how comprehensive the Gunsmith 2.0 was and it will feature even more in the final game. However, it’s worth mentioning that the Gunsmith won’t likely be available for the players during the early access period. The early access period starts on October 20 for players who pre-ordered the game while the Multiplayer modes will unlock from October 28.
