Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the latest popular AAA game that’s capturing the attention of gamers. Like other games in this genre, it features choice-based quests. One choice, “Justice Must Be Served,” happens at the end of the “Heads Will Roll” quest.
This choice affects Mitsumune and mainly impacts Yaya, who might become an ally. While this decision doesn’t have major consequences, knowing how to get the best outcome for Yaya can be helpful. Here’s how to make this choice effectively.
1. Should you side with Mitsumune in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
Players should not side with Mitsumune in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as this leads to the soldier’s execution and Yaya’s disapproval.

At the end of the “Heads Will Roll” quest, you need to choose between “Justice must be served” or “Killing them isn’t justice” for the soldier facing execution. Your choices in this quest will influence Yaya’s recruitment later in the game during the Stray Dogs quest.
If you side with Mitsumune, he will kill the soldiers without any objection. As a result, Yaya will get upset and run away. It’s important to note that Yaya can be a valuable ally in your gameplay, especially since you’ll likely want to keep her on your side.
Note: Two dialogue choices in The Stray Dogs can help you recruit Yaya. You can still recruit her if you choose differently from what she prefers. You must only agree with Yaya to recruit her in two of these three choices.
2. All the Choices Outcomes
2.1 Choosing “Justice Must Be Served”
Choosing “Justice Must be Served” allows Mitsumune to proceed with the execution unopposed, and the quest will end there.

You agree with Mitsumune on the execution of the soldier, which will make him happy in exchange for making Yaya angry. She will run away, and you’ll never see her again until The Stray Dogs quest.

Despite being the violent choice, this is the canon choice within the story. Other than that, there are no special rewards or long-term story consequences for letting Mitsumune kill the surrendering soldiers.
2.2 Choose “Killing Isn’t Justice”
Select “Killing them isn’t justice” instead of “Justice must be served” during the finale of the Heads Will Roll quest to earn Yaya’s approval.

While this choice will still lead to the soldier’s execution, it allows you to gain Yaya’s favor. It lets you recruit an additional character and officially unlocks the summon mechanic in combat. You can also access this feature later through other characters. Although this option represents a more peaceful approach, it’s not the typical or canon choice.
3. About Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is an upcoming action role-playing video game developed by Ubisoft Quebec and published by Ubisoft, set to release in November 15, 2024. The game is the fourteenth major installment in the Assassin’s Creed series and the successor to 2023’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage, as well as the first title to be included in the Assassin’s Creed: Infinity platform.
Set in 16th-century Japan towards the end of the Sengoku period, the game will focus on the millennia-old struggle of the Assassin Brotherhood, who fight for peace and liberty, and the Templar Order, who desire peace through control, from the perspective of two protagonists: Naoe, a female shinobi, and Yasuke, an African samurai inspired by the historical figure of the same name.
