Tom Cruise’s versatility in learning new things is as well-known as his passion for committing to his stunts in his films. But Cruise takes things to a new level in his upcoming movie Mission Impossible 7, and we know just how much work was put into that by him and the crew after Paramount Pictures shared a long BTS video of the momentous stunt.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One is the beginning of the end of Ethan Hunt’s adventures in the MI film series, as the seventh and eighth films will wrap up Cruise’s role in the franchise. Maybe that’s why Tom Cruise decided to go all out and make cinematic history by performing the biggest stunt known to audiences.
Watch history being made and learn all the details of how it all came to be in the BTS video released by Paramount Pictures below:
The video details Cruise’s dedication to nailing the scene where he rides off a cliff on a dirt bike and freefalls till, he has to open a parachute and guide himself to safety, and boy, did that take extensive training.
In the months leading up to the principal photography and the actual stunt shooting, Cruise worked with multiple experts and perfected his motocross and base diving skills. The actor did over 500 skydives and 13000 motocross stints to assemble the data he and the team would need to perfect the shot. No wonder Tom Cruise is known as the daredevil of Hollywood!
When the day of filming the stunt came, the film director McQuarrie and the other crew members held their breath as Cruise readied himself to drive off the edge with multiple camera drones keeping him in their lens.
In the first take, Cruise nailed the shot but decided he could do better by holding on to the bike for longer to build the suspense and did six takes of the jump-off. The perfectionist actor wowed the crew and the six million viewers who’ve watched the behind-the-scenes since Paramount released it two days ago.
We can even see the actual jump-off in the Mission Impossible 7 trailer, and McQuarrie and Cruise have promised even more dangerous stakes for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part Two. After seeing the BTS of the months of hard work and preparation for this stunt, we can’t wait to see what the duo has in store for us as Hunt’s last mission.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part On will release globally on June 28, 2024.
