Initially, Windows 10 was supposed to be the final iteration of Microsoft’s ubiquitous software. But, as time passed, news on the next Windows OS, i.e., Windows 11, began to crop up all over.
Now, even though it hasn’t been officially announced, it seems that Windows 11 is officially a go as an official retirement date for support on Windows 10 has come to light.
Users on Windows 10 will stop receiving official support on October 14, 2025; this date will apply to both Pro and Home editions of the software. The date comes from a Microsoft support document that has been making the rounds on the interwebs.
Discontinuing support for aging software has been a modus operandi for not just Microsoft but all software providers. It seems that Microsoft will not be straying from this as it plans to keep Windows 10 up to date for only four more years while it works on bringing Windows 11 to the market.
What’s more, the current version of Windows 10 (Version 21H1) might not be the concluding one, as the end date for the same is December 13, 2022. This leaves Microsoft with a few years to account for, which means that several more updates might be coming to the OS.
This makes sense as Windows 11 might not launch immediately after support for Windows 10 stops, so Windows 10 needs to be in tip-top condition till then.
Windows 10 is arguably Microsoft’s most popular OS due to the bi-annual feature upgrades that keep it fresh and relevant. However, fans will definitely have to keep allowing updates to come in if they want to enjoy a smooth experience until the official arrival of Windows 11.
At the moment, Microsoft hasn’t confirmed an official release date for the next Windows, but a date that coincides with the 2025 retirement of Windows 10 would be our best bet.
We would also suggest keeping an eye on Microsoft’s “what’s next for Windows” event that is scheduled to take place on June 24. You can set a reminder for the live stream of the event here.
