The XIII Remake was underwhelming, to say the least. There were issues with the audio, framerates kept dropping unusually, and disappointed players broadly criticized the low-quality artwork. The game received negative reviews with a 2/10 rating on Steam.
Microids announced that the XIII Remake would be getting a major improvement with a new developer, Tower Five, taking over. The free update releases on September 13th.
This new makeover, developed by Tower Five, will feature upgrades in art style, online multiplayer mode, AI interface, UHD, sound design, framerates for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles, and more.
The awaited online multiplayer mode will now allow up to 13 players. The publisher has promised 30FPS on Switch and 60FPS on PS5 & Xbox.
This will be a free update for all game owners. The entire game has been improved, and several technical changes have also been added.
Stéphane Longeard, CEO at Microids, explained,
A bit more than a year ago we took the decision to hire the studio Tower Five to finish the development of the game… We really wanted to take the time to fix the game and offer owners of XIII Remake a free update paying the best possible tribute to the original game we all love. The Nintendo Switch version of the game will of course benefit from all the work done to improve the game as well as the multiplayer mode, which will mark the end of the game’s development…
Stéphane Longeard, CEO at Microids
XIII Remake is currently available for Steam, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Windows, and Mac.
