Michelle Pfeiffer defends Grease 2 after Being Misquoted

Michelle Pfeiffer, the actress who played a leading role in Grease 2, has strongly defended the movie after her opinion about it was misinterpreted.

Grease 2 is a musical sequel that was released in 1982 and followed the success of the 1978 film Grease, which starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Despite Pfeiffer taking on the lead role alongside Maxwell Caulfield, the sequel was not well-received by many viewers and was considered by some to be a dull repetition of ideas from the first film.

After noticing that she was being misquoted regarding her thoughts on Grease 2, Michelle Pfeiffer used Instagram to set the record straight. She posted a screenshot of an article that featured quotes supposedly from her, but with her name spelled incorrectly, in which she appeared to be criticizing the film. 

Pfeiffer promptly corrected the misrepresentation and expressed how much the movie actually meant to her. Here’s what the actress said –

“This project is and has always been so special to me and my history – One should never trust a publication to get quotes right if they can’t even bother to spell the person’s name correctly.”

Grease is a well-known musical with famous songs that can be easily recognized. The beloved film initially started as a stage musical that won a Tony Award and continues to be popular today, partly due to the popularity of the film and its music.

Additionally, the musical has been adapted into various formats, including live TV specials, a reality singing competition, and a prequel spinoff series called Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, which is now available on Paramount+. In contrast, Grease 2 has not been as successful as its predecessor.

Although Grease 2 has some memorable songs, a lot of people viewed it as redundant because it appeared to be telling the same story. With many of the original cast members missing, the movie struggled to impress viewers. 

Nonetheless, despite its initial lackluster reception, Grease 2 has garnered a devoted following of fans who appreciate the movie for what it is, either having grown up with it or discovering it through their love for the original.

Although Grease 2 was one of the early films in Michelle Pfeiffer’s career, she acknowledges the part it played in her successful career. Seven years after appearing in Grease 2, she was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Dangerous Liaisons.

Despite the fact that Grease is more favorably remembered, Pfeiffer and a group of devoted fans still support the less-popular sequel. Consequently, the continued popularity of Grease is likely to generate fresh and original content, which could potentially attract new fans to Grease 2.

Grease 2 is a 1982 American musical romantic comedy film and the sequel to the 1978 film Grease, adapted from the 1971 musical of the same name by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey.

Originally titled More Grease, the film was produced by Allan Carr and Robert Stigwood, and directed and choreographed by Patricia Birch, who choreographed the original stage production and prior film.

The plot returns to Rydell High School two years after the original film’s graduation, with a largely new cast, led by Maxwell Caulfield and Michelle Pfeiffer in her first starring role.
