Here’s How Michael Keaton Feels On Returning To Batman After 30 Years

It’s been almost three decades since Michael Keaton was in Caped Crusader’s costume. Now as he returns to play Batman in 2022’s The Flash , he talks about the familiarity of the iconic role.

In conversation with Jake’s Takes, Keaton begins by talking about the different ways people approach him based on his roles, be it as Gotham’s prime superhero or his villainous Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Here’s the full video:

Keaton too is secretive about the plot for the upcoming Flash movie, but he does point out how riveting it is to experiment with “multiplicities” in The Flash. This is a nod to Ben Affleck reprising his role as Batman, alongside him. Of course, here he could also be talking about Ezra Miller’s Flash having to act as different versions of himself. 

About wearing the cowl itself, Keaton tells us that it was so “shockingly normal” that is almost felt weird. Perhaps this sense of calm comes in after handling a massive fan-favorite with much care. And then, there are also memories, both muscle and visual that run in for Keaton after getting into the role 30 years later.

Will Keaton voice his legendary dialogue, “I’m Batman,” loud and clear? The actor does not give it away in the interview and jokes about bad internet reception. We can only imagine such a moment holds a dear space in the movie.

In The Flash universe, Keaton will appear as an aged version of Batman from another universe, following the continuity of Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992), that is, only the movies he was part of.

As The Flash is scheduled for November 4, 2020, we’re still miles away from a full-length trailer. We hope Keaton drops a few more crumbs about his role in the movie before then.

The movie will see Barry Allen travel back in time to prevent his mother’s murder, which brings unintentional consequences to his timeline.

Miller will be joined by actors Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, Sasha Calle, Kiersey Clemons, Maribel Verdu, and Ron Livingston. The movie is set to release on June 16, 2023.
