Ant-Man 3 was officially announced last year, with Peyton Reed returning to direct, following another successful launch in the franchise.
MCU stars Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly confirm that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania starts filming this summer. Paul Rudd will feature as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, with Evangeline Lilly co-leading the movie as Hope van Dyne aka Wasp. The sequel will also star Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne.
Marvel Studios furnished more information on Ant-Man 3 late in 2020, as Disney’s Investor Day fetched numerous reveals, including the movie’s official title. This is where Kevin Feige verified that Jonathan Majors is starring as Kang the Conqueror in the movie, and Kathryn Newton is playing Cassie Lang’s role.
As the main Ant-Man cast is returning, some crucial comic threads like Kang and Young Avengers are set up through Cassie, and there is a bunch of enthusiasm for the sequel. Even though Marvel hasn’t allotted a release date yet, it turns out that filming starts in just a few months.
Recently, both Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly have conveyed what they know about when Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania begins filming. A fan inquired Douglas for an update on Ant-man 3 during a Q&A on Instagram via Ant-Man News, and he said, “To the best of my knowledge, we’re going to start filming this year.”
On Lilly’s Instagram page, a fan raised the same question in one of her posts’ comments. And here’s how she responded:
Marvel moves rather quickly on Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, considering the summer 2021 target date. The onset of production is even more astonishing, keeping in mind that the movie does not have a release date yet. Marvel is usually able to get a film released in theatres approximately a year after it starts filming.
That would set Ant-Man 3 on the path for a 2022 release, but there are already four MCU movies scheduled that year: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther 2, and Captain Marvel 2.
Unless Marvel decides to push one of their 2022 movies to 2023, or to boost output again and shift to five films per year, the safe bet is still that Ant-Man 3 won’t be released until 2023. The purpose for this early start date could be scheduling and a side-effect of the COVID-19 holdups to Phase 4.
Marvel may have initially anticipated the next Ant-Man coming out in 2022. The cast stars some in-demand actors, and it was potentially easier for Marvel to keep the initial shooting schedule. Nonetheless, fans can now expect further Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania news to come during the summer, before filming begins.
