My Hero Academia throws light on Endeavor and Rei’s relationship

My Hero Academia, being a typical shonen, does not revolve around romance. Fans love the show mainly because of its interesting plot, character growth, and most of all the thrilling action sequences. That being said, it would be wrong to say that there aren’t any couples in the story-line at all. Like any other franchise, the fans of My Hero Academia have set every possible ship to sail but most of them are not gonna sail. Endeavor however, is already established to be Rei’s husband and we just got some news on the brand new No. 1 Hero’s relationship with his wife.

My Hero Academia put out a new book, rather, a guide that contains information about heroes and villains. Under the Endeavour section, we find Rei’s mention in his special fact column. Translated by Aitaikimochi, the section starts off like so:

“Due to AM’s retirement, he became the No. 1 Hero w/o wishing for it. He’s powerful, diligent but grasping to figure out what it means to be No. 1. He wants to be different than AM- to be a true No. 1 Hero.”

The same section later on mentions Rei and how Endeavor is “still not allowed to see her”. With no information being given by Endeavor himself about his relationship with his wife, this came as quite a shock. The story introduced Rei’s existence to us through Shoto and how she was the victim of one of the nasty “Quirk Marriages”.

Rei and Shoto were abused by Endeavor and the trauma from the constant torment pushed Rei to attack her own child, which gave him his scar. After that incident, Endeavor admitted Rei in an institution and that’s all we knew. But it turns out that the deal specifically mentions that he is not allowed to see Rei anymore.

This gives fans the scent of a redemption arc for Endeavor on his way to prove his worth to take All Might’s place as the No. 1 Hero.
