If you are an avid watcher, then you’d know that cloned Pokemon had appeared a few times in the anime. However, their most prominent appearance was in “Mewtwo Strikes Back.”
Pokemon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back, way back in 1998, introduced cloned Pokemon when Mewtwo made clones of various Pokemon belonging to the Trainers who have come to New Island. Now, finally, after 22 years, clone Pokemon are coming to Pokemon GO this month.
On February 25, cloned Pokemon will make their debut in Pokemon GO, along with Armored Mewtwo, who last appeared in July 2019. Cloned versions of Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise will be available in four-star raids while Armored Mewtwo will be back in five-star raids.
What are cloned Pokemon?
Mewtwo created clone Pokemon in Mewtwo Strikes Back, which served as its army. Mewtwo sought revenge and believed that cloned Pokemon are more powerful than normal Pokemon and are capable of taking over the world.
In The Uncut Story of Mewtwo’s Origin, Dr. Fuji wanted Giovanni to fund his project (failed) of cloning his dead daughter Amber. Giovanni agreed after Dr. Fuji promised to create an enhanced clone of Mew (Mewtwo) for Giovanni.
Mewtwo then captured the target Pokemon in special Poke Balls called “Mewtwo Balls” and processed these balls through a special cloning machine. The special thing about these balls, unlike your basic super/ultra balls, is that they allowed capturing and storing more than one pokemon in it.
Mewtwo’s clones appeared to be in better shape than Fuji’s initial clones and were fully-grown. Although few clones had some black marks on their bodies, most of them were utterly identical to their original counterparts.
Mewtwo’s cloned Pokemon proved to be stronger than their original counterparts in the anime, but whether or not Pokemon GO’s cloned Pokemon will be equally strong or not is yet to be seen.
Surprisingly, a broken update to the Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal allowed users to clone some Pokémon. But now, you can capture these cloned Pokemon officially, so be ready with your raid party.
